(well...not really...but my god....last night was BAD)
Yesterday was Indonesia's Independence Day celebration, and the local "neighborhood" I live in did the "greased pole" climbing thing...
Let me explain...they take this smooth tree, put a bunch of stuff on the top of it...grease it up and stick it in the ground....then groups of 5 people attempt to skinny up the pole and try and get the goodies...
Naturally...not being too bright...I had to join in!
(Had to be the first time a white guy has tried this there....)
It started at 2:00pm (the normal visiting time for my daily demon) and the day was hot as H. E. double toothpicks 
The object is to climb to the top, hugging this greased pole till the top man (standing on the backs of each person) can teach the top...so as you can imagine this not only is filthy, greasy, hot, you are holding up the weight of a whole stack of people (seeing as I am a bit larger than most of the guys here...I was near the bottom....
To make a long story short....by yesterday night, my head was busting wide open!!!!! My head has never hurt as bad...nothing I did could stop it....I did not sleep a wink last night...and am STILL shadow boxing with the beast even now!!!!
Guess this will teach me to join the locals in their games huh?

Sorry about the head, dude. This thing sucks and the past few days have been really bad ones for a lot of people. Something in the air I think.
Got the vibes on the way. Stay away from greased Poles or Indonesians or ...

Seems like when ever I *do* try and actually DO something, I end up fighting the demon all the more!
I try and not let it rule my life...but it gets hard knowing that most any time you actually DO something you'll pay the price for it!
Oh well...if I can figure where to post the pics I'll do it! It was...umm...diffrent!

So, greasin' your pole wasn't as fun as it first seemed? I've heard that it's more fun with someone else, but apparently, the "group therapy approach" didn't quite work out. Hrmmm... Well, that blows my fantasies all to hell...
Seriously though, I'm sorry you had such an awful time last night. If that's the worst you've ever had, then it can only get better, right? No matter how bad you wrestle with the Beast, you can always point to last night and say, "Well, as bad as this is, at least it wasn't as bad as the time I was trying to climb that greased pole..."

We have the greasy pole competition here too  . I once had to watch my husband (who is 6' 7" ) being at the very bottom of a pile of 6 men all standing on each other's shoulders at the Annual Portrush Raft Race.
They were the first people ever to have achieved it, but I thought his spine was going to crumble.
As a result I have sympathy with how you musthave felt afterwards as I know he was in a great deal of pain and at least he could get pissed to celebrate!
Interesting as I thought this was a weird British tradition (shouldn't say that actually as Portrush is in Northern Ireland)
