I know what you mean. I'm on a Medrol Dospak (day 2). Hope your Prednisone helps. BTW ... that's a quick taper. I usually do 60,60,60,40,40,40,20,20,20,10,10. Gives me a few extra days that I might have PF. Best Wishes, Unsolved

Yeah it is. I did a 2 week long one back when I was at UMDNJ and it started at 80mg. Here my doc does 6-8 days max usually, and I always start at 60mg. Well....here's hoping it buys me a few days without the beast...or at least knocks it down from it's current pattern of abuse to something less....evil! Thanks for the well-wishes Carrie

All I can think of right now, is what Dave Emond is going through because of incorrect dosage, to quick a taper, or whatever it was from Predisone. I will try and find his post that says what happened to cause him becoming so ill and now trying to fight for his life... In the meantime, please everyone be cautious with that med! love, mel

| That's pretty reasonable, yes. The taper schedule I mentioned is just what I usually do. Starting off at 40 mg a day does little good for me. 50 may help. 60 usually does this trick. I've started at 80 mg a day before. When in the hospital, sometimes I get steriods...like Solu Medrol 125 mg infusions. (That's equal to about 400 mg of Prednisone I believe ... someone correct me if i'm wrong). You'll blow up like a balloon doing that for very long in the hospital though. People run into problems with steriod use when they use too much, or when they use it for too long, or if they start it and don't taper off of it. Prednisone can be dangerous if not used correctly. It can also help people out ALOT if used correctly. No one should abruptly stop taking this med once on it. It can cause a variety of problems and side effects, sometimes serious or even life threatening. PF Wishes ~ Unsolved

Carrie, Good luck w/the taper. Hope you get some pf time. Melissa is right....DaveE is going thru some real bad times right now because of a doc that had him on too high a dosage of Pred and then there was no taper! Keep in mind, this can destroy the immune system. Short term, and a taper is ok. The way he was prescribed the Pred....was totally unacceptable. Sometimes, we have to be the sufferer AND the doc. PF vibes, Jean

I'm using prednisone, too. I'm new to the boards. I've been episodic at up to two or three clusters a year for 15 years now. After much searching the first two years, I discovered Prednisone and Imitrex. Life was good. Now this last time, at around the third or fourth round of Prednisone (which usually about gets me through the run of a cluster and I'll be free for another 6 months to a year) it's barely working! I'm actually--scared I guess. I really had my magic bullet--as long as I don't develop a condition that precludes using it. But now even this combo is failing at least partially. Not to mention I have to stockpile the Imitrex and beg for samples because the freaking insurance company has the idiotic limit of one (two vial) Imitrex scrip PER 30 DAYS! I'm down to four vials and I'm toughing it out through some medium grade eye drilling episodes so I have it for the worst ones. Anyone else have the experience of the prednisone only partially working after a number of years? Oh, GOOD NEWS: I found out the nasal spray really does work for me. The tablets were useless but the spray works in about 5 minutes--not as good as the minute or so the injection works in but the pack is for SIX. Now my thought is that the *&!$$ at the insurance company can't make them split that so they'll have to give me one refill of SIX doses per 30 days not just the TWO vial refill of injectible. What's anyone else's experience with nasal Imitrex? God bless all and many PFND.

Well I got the script today and started taking it. My constant headache has shot up really badly, so I'm hoping this helps that too. Thanks for all the advice. My doc is very careful about prescribing prednisone and tapering correctly. I'm only allowed to do prednisone every 6 weeks, and he only does it for 6-8 days max. I'm also supposed to be getting a dexascan to check for bone density as ordered by the rheumatologist a couple weeks ago. Still waiting to see if the radiologist approves of it because it is very expensive. If I didn't have 2 finals tomorrow...I'd be going to the ER tonight for the severity of my constant headache. If the clusters come on top of this tonight, I think I'm gonna be nuts. Unfortunately...have to try to study. Again, thanks for the vibes and support...really need it these days! I'm still waiting for things to go right... Hugz, Carrie/Lizzie2
