Got Spyware?

My brother came over last night to install new antiviruws software on my machine, since Norton crapped out. While he was on my puter, he noticed I HAD Smiley-Central smileys loaded on my toolbar (That's where we get all the cool smileys we add to our posts) and he asked, "Do you enjoy having Spyware and Key Logging on your system?" I was like "Huh?"
He told me that the smiley central and MyWeb toolbar (aka Mybar and MyWay) is actually spyware, and that is why he wouldn't let my niece use it.
I'm taking his word for it, and went ahead and removed it from my system. I'm also using a new antivirus software called AVG. The free version can be found at   www.grisoft.com.

Just thought I'd warn y'all. He also got pissed at my dinosaur keyboard with health issues, turned off my machine, went down to his car, came back up with a new keyboard and tossed my old one. I'm having to get used to this new resistant-free method of typing. My numeric keypad even works, something my old one didn't.

Peace,
Carl D

*I also use AdAware 6.0 and Spybot Search and Destroy. These are very effective against adware and spyware. I highly recommend them both.

Any 'free' software that does something cute for you (ie smileys, search assistants) is malware or spyware.

If you ever clicked 'YES' to 'Do you want to load yada yada yada', then chances are quite good that every key you type goes to good friends in Russia, China, and 500 other places.  Your credit card info, passwords, -every key-.

-Every- PC that the AARP-elite on my block brings to me to fix for viruses is LOADED with spyware... Gator, Bonzi Buddy, SmileyCentral, MyWebSearch, any free Toolbar you can imagine, etc.

First I run AdAware, then SpyBot, then must reinstall their antivirus since they clicked on some 'Pictures for You' email that wiped out their antivirus software.  About 5 times out of 10 I just keep their PC for a week and wipe the hard drive.

So, if you have a cute little bird or smiley or ape running around your screen, know that you are that bird/smiley/ape's biatch.
