New Doc fears and tears

Hi. In Aug 16 I have an appt with Dr. Sheftell at the NECH. ON the surface I am very excited, but under it all I've come to realize I am afraid. I'm afraid to the point of tears ...a lot of tears. I'm afraid of putting myself through the wringer and coming up dissapointed. I'm afraid to hope too hard. the last two docs i've seen since May were awful and after each appt I've been very drained and distressed. its a four hour appt. Five hours away from my house. What if I forget something? What if I don't come away with anything good? And what if my head hurts and I can't even sit still? Ugh. -Rori

Keep your hopes up that all will go well..and maybe getting "hit" while you are there wouldnt be such a bad thing.. let them see what you go through.. I can tell you thats when I got the most help..when I got hit at the docs office.. Walked away with everything I needed after that. Huggs Shari

I have epilepsy too and have been to 7 or 8 of these bizarre neurologists. Never have seen one with all his burners running the same time. As for getting hit during a visit, I once had a seizure in his office. Never have I seen a happier man. He was beside himself with glee. Wrote reams of notes and said how great it was that he got to see it. At least neuruologial tests are painless; incredibly boring but just time-wasting otherwise. Let him do his thing and stick with him if he knows how to speak in a few non-medical terms Good luck. Charlie

Isn't it wonderful to be part of such a large and caring family...most often some one around to soothe our pain and fears...As a Sr member here and once an elderly caregiver...I suggest a list of your concerns, ? meds, and copy anything appropriate to them from here to share with the Doc...easier on you and the Doc...Please know that we will be waiting to here and praying that you get one worth talking to at least...PPP Oh, and don't forget to let us hear it you win the Lottery, too...hehehe 143

I just read your post and I could feel your anxiety in your words. I think if there is anyone that has a lot of insight to clusters, the folks at NECH do. Dr. Sheftell is one of the doctors working with the advocacy team from OUCH. This is a good thing, and though not every treatment works the same for everyone, or at all, I would say you are going to be in good hands. Just remember your family here is with you in spirit on your journey. Pep

Rori, If you haven't already done so, start a headache diary and take it with you to your appointment. It will be a big help to Dr. Sheftell. Someone posted a link just over a month ago to a site with a headache diary form on it. If you want to go to the trouble to look for it, I think it was posted toward the end of June or early July. Good luck and Godspeed, ...................................................alley

Dr. Sheftell is probably in the top ten of cluster docs in the US.
