Settlin in NC

Hey Gang! Sorry I haven't been around, just getting settled in NC. Let see, I had my wimpy Southern California umbrella destroyed by a thunderstorm on the golf course. I've seen more rain and lightning in the last 2 weeks than I have in the last 10 years in SoCal. There's no friggin Tri-tip out here,, and the sushi sucks! Oh, and the bugs are so big that they have to file a flight plan and it's friggin Humid! Did I mention that it is Humid?? I know where every ABC store is within a 15 mile radius and I am going to buy stock in Aquafina! I love my air conditioning ( dying to see the bill) and they drive crazy out here. But other than that, I am transitioning just fine! I hope to be around more as I settle in... take care! Slammy

Hey Slammers!!! Welcome to the hood. Doesn't that suck...no Tri Tip!!! I have tried to make due with a London Broil. Thinking I will mail order some from meat market in Merced. And some Basque marinade. And the bugs...OMG. I can't walk out to the mailbox without long pants and a long sleeve jacket...and in this humidity. So hey...how about meeting me at McDonalds in Wakefiled at 8:30 Wed. morning???????????? Or should I introduce you to Bojangle's egg and cheese bisquits??? Watch out when you are driving in these storms...the southern folks stop dead in the middle of the road if the drops are too big. BTW...you don't need an umbrella on the golf course, ya wuss!!! ......................Little Deb

WB Slammy. No matter what the welder from MA may say, you've not lost your touch. You sound good. NC: Not too bad but it helps to have a can of DEET in your tool belt. Buy a snow shovel too. Charlie: LOL! I found out what Deet is and stocked up on it! Thank God for Home Depot and Loews! Deb: Are you talking about the McDonalds on New Falls of Neuse across the street from Kerr Drugs? The only reason I needed the umbrella was to keep my golf clubs dry! I got your "wimp" right here! Jonny! I know.. that sounded like a major whine, huh? I need to suck it up! Slammy

Nice to see you posting, Slammy. Have you got love bugs there in NC? If you don't have love bugs, you don't have anything to complain about! They have no pride! They squash all over your front bumper, hood and side mirrors....their innerds eat the paint off your car if you don't wash it right away.....they fly, joined, into your face, hair, etc. They come in cycles, twice per year. Wanna talk about red tide? Florida is loverly.

Is this the only place with 3 clusterheads within 5 miles of each other? The bugs suck, but I was on the coast and they were much, much worse and much, much LARGER there. And by the way, I grew up in the east and you never, ever, ever get use to the humidity. The good thing is, you are in Wakefield and Milton's is a good place to eat.

Now that you have moved to the South certain protocols and codes of conduct are expected. For your information and orientation find enclosed the following: *The confederate battle flag must be flown at least 2 feet above the NASCAR flag *The chairs in the front of the house are not old school bus seats--they are called “Lawn Furniture” *The neatly arranged columns against the foundation walls of your crawl space are not for structural support—they are called termite mounds. *Get rid of your car and buy a pickup truck *The greenish hue of your house in the sunlight is mold/mildew---buy a pressure washer. *The bird that hit the window of your car is really an insect. *A pit bull pup will be available for purchase from one of your neighbors—to guard your house while away *Pistol range will be right up the street *Forget the Thanksgiving turkey…..get BBQ *Don’t flush cigarette butts….they will stop up your septic system Hope this helps, John

1. Don't fake a Southern accent. This will incite a riot, and you will get your ass kicked. 2. Don't order filet mignon or pasta primavera at Waffle House. It's just a diner. They serve breakfast 24 hours a day. Let them cook something they know. If you confuse them, they'll kick your ass. 3. We are fully aware of how high the humidity is, so shut the hell up. Just spend your money and get the hell out of here, or we'll kick your ass. 4. Don't order a bottle of pop or a can of soda down here. Down here it's called Coke. Nobody gives a flying rat's ass whether it's Pepsi, RC, Dr. Pepper, 7-Up or whatever... it's still a Coke. Accept it. Doing otherwise can lead to an ass kicking. 5. We know our heritage. Most of us are more literate than you (e.g.Welty, Williams, Faulkner). We are also better educated and generally a lot nicer. Don't refer to us as a bunch of hillbillies or we'll kick your ass. 6. We have plenty of business sense (e.g., Fred Smith of Fed Ex, Sam Walton, Oprah, Turner Broadcasting, MTV, Netscape). Naturally, we do, sometimes, have small lapses in judgment, if you keep reminding us of the fact we will kick your ass. 7. Don't laugh at our Civil War monuments. If Lee had listened to Longstreet and flanked Meade at Gettysburg instead of sending Pickett up the middle, you'd be paying taxes to Richmond instead of Washington. If you visit Stone Mountain and complain about the carving, we'll kick your ass. 8. Don't laugh at our Southern names (Merleen, Luther, Tammy Lynn, Inez, Billy Joe, Sissy, Clovis, etc.) or we will just HAVE to kick your ass. 9. Don't order wheat toast at Cracker Barrel. Everyone will instantly know that you're a Yankee. Eat your biscuits like God intended with gravy. And don't put sugar on your grits, or we'll kick your ass. 10. Don't talk about how much better things are at home because we know better. Many of us have visited Northern hellholes like Detroit, Chicago, and DC, and we have the scars to prove it. If you don't like it here, Delta or US Airways is ready when you are. Move your ass on home before it gets kicked. 11. Yes, we know how to speak proper English. We talk this way because we don't want to sound like you. We don't care if you don't understand what we are saying. All other Southerners understand what we are saying, and that's all that matters. Now, go away and leave us alone, or we'll kick your ass. 12. Don't complain that the South is dirty and polluted. None of OUR lakes or rivers have caught fire recently. If you whine about OUR scenic beauty, we'll kick your ass all the way back to Boston Harbor. 13. Don't ridicule our Southern manners. We say sir and ma'am. We hold doors open for others. We offer our seats to old folks because such things are expected of civilized people. Behave yourselves around our sweet little gray-haired grandmothers or they'll kick some manners into your ass just like they did ours. 14. So you think we're quaint, or losers, because most of us live in the countryside? That's because we have enough sense to not live in filthy, smelly, crime infested cesspools like New York, Baltimore or Boston. Make fun of our fresh air, and we'll kick your ass. 15. Last, but not least, DO NOT DARE to come down here and tell us how to cook barbecue. This will get your ass shot (right after it is kicked). You're lucky we let you come down here at all. Criticize our barbecue, and you will go home in a pine box...minus your ass.

Oh, I forgot (L. Deb reminded me)---buy a generator for hurricane season at home depot or lowes. Last year during Isabel I ran mine for 11 days, $300 in fuel, almost burned the house down. During the storms impossible to find one. John
