The Iron has become fatigued . Tyson is old for a fighter. He needs to find another job now.

And Tyson’s moving on can only be good for professional boxing. He has been a major embarrassment for a long time now.

Kind of sad, really. In his most recent interviews, it seems like he's finally got his head together. Looks like Williams scrambled his brains, though. YARK!!  Roll Eyes

At the start of his career, he was probably the best YOUNG heavyweight ever.  Amazing how many bucks fans spent for fights that didn't last past the 3rd round.

Things went downhill quickly after the loss to Buster Douglas and his legal woes.  Roll Eyes

When he lost to Buster Douglas, he was 37-0 with 33 knockouts, 25 of which were in the first 3 rounds.

Too bad he'll be remembered by most as a nut-job but that's ultimately what he was.

How to blow 300 million bucks  Huh

Quote:
Tyson's finances down for the count
By Michael Weissenstein, The Associated Press

NEW YORK — A diamond necklace worth as much as some houses. More than $300,000 in limousine rides. Sixty thousand dollars worth of rugs. Mike Tyson's Manhattan bankruptcy filing lays out the surprising ease with which the former heavyweight champion burned through hundreds of millions of dollars during his career.

Boxer Mike Tyson has "discovered that his debts far exceeded his assets," his attorney said.
AP file

Tyson, 37, now has pegged much of his hope for financial resurrection on a lawsuit against Don King that could go to trial in September, according to the filings. The suit claims King cheated Tyson out of millions after he got out of prison in 1995 and went back to fighting for the promoter.

"There's no question that the lawsuit could potentially be the largest asset of his estate," Tyson attorney Debra Grassgreen said.

Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champ at 20, grossing an estimated $300 million in the ring over the years. He is suing his former promoter for $100 million.

The boxer describes the litigation as part of his "substantial intangible assets" in a filing that traces the arc of his career beginning with the words, "I am a professional boxer and a former heavyweight champion of the world."

It goes on to recount his rape conviction, the 1997 bout when he bit Evander Holyfield's ears, and alleged financial mismanagement by King, whose spokesman did not return a telephone call seeking comment.

The filing catalogues numerous claims against Tyson, including millions of dollars in back taxes, lawsuits, child-support payments and more spending on luxury goods than many people make in a lifetime.

Tyson, for example, owes $308,749.60 to CLS Transportation, a limousine company that charges about $100 an hour for the eight-person stretch limos that Tyson favors, the company's chief operating officer, Leon Reitzenstein, said Tuesday.

The debt has been incurred since Tyson's loss to Lennox Lewis in Memphis, last year, Reitzenstein said.

"He has been with us for quite some time. He is a good client. We have no reason to believe that he'll leave us hanging," Reitzenstein said.

Tyson filed for Chapter 11 protection Friday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York.

Grassgreen said there are so many lawsuits filed by and against Tyson that it's nearly impossible to accurately describe his current financial status.

Earlier this year, as part of a divorce settlement, Tyson agreed to pay his ex-wife, Monica, $6.5 million from future earnings.

"It's very difficult to tell what the actual assets and liabilities are," Grassgreen said, although both categories almost certainly are in the tens of millions of dollars.

Tyson's debts are largely the doing of former managers and associates who mishandled his money, said his spokeswoman, Raymone Bain.

"Mike Tyson's personal expenditure has been far exaggerated," Bain said. "What has been expended on his behalf is triple, quadruple what Mike Tyson has personally spent."

Tyson is optimistic that he will be able to reorganize and pay his debts, Bain said.

"It's going to require some real work on his part," said Sandy Ain, attorney for Tyson's ex-wife Monica Turner. "It's clear that he has eroded an astounding amount of money over recent years."

Included in the "astounding" category is Tyson's purchase last year of a 40-inch white gold necklace with 80 carats worth of diamonds from a Las Vegas jewelry emporium. The tab: $173,706.05.

"We've developed very good relations so I don't believe he'll stiff me with it," said Mordechai Yerushalmi, owner of The Jewelers. "Compared to all the purchases he's made with me over the years, it's very little."

Besides his financial problems, Tyson is also facing possible jail time again.

He pleaded innocent last month to misdemeanor assault, harassment and disorderly conduct charges for pummeling two men during a brawl at a Brooklyn hotel on June 21. Tyson's lawyers claimed his actions were justified because the two men allegedly menaced the boxer first by telling him they were armed. Prosecutors say the assault went too far.

Tyson, who served three years in prison for rape in the 1990s, faces up to a year if convicted of the latest charges.

The thing that saddens me the most, is that he had the potential to be greater than Mohammed Ali. I was watching some old tape of him the other day, when he first burst onto the heavyweight scene. His interviews, matches, etc. He was truly terrifying in the ring, and outside the ring, he was mellow and personable. Just sad to see how he ended up... *sigh* Undecided

He's got some classic quotes for sure. My fave is:

Quote:
On the Media “I want to throw down your kid and stomp on his testicles, and then you will know what it is like to experience waking up everyday as me. And only then will you feel my pain.”

Maybe he will just go away now. Boy I would have liked to see him and Evander fight back before he lost to Buster.

Jeep, Mike never had the potential to be greater than Ali.  Ali was the greatest and will always be the greatest.  That man had far more than boxing skill working for him.  I'll admit Tyson was terrifying and could have been truly great, but he was an unstable, uneducated, mentally weak person and would never have risen to the greatness that is Ali.  But, that's just my opinion.  And yes, I'd tell Mike that to his face.  He'd probably agree with me.

You're right of course, Fubar. No one will ever compare to Ali. Still, Tyson was awesome... Just a really tragic waste of amazing talent...

IMHO,

Once he turned cannibal, that should
have been the end for that sick f*ck.

A disgrace to the boxing profession
to ever let him proceed.

I am glad he got his a$$ kicked.
No pity or sympathy here.

If you or I had done all he has done,
we would still be sitting behind bars.

Rot in hell MikeTyson, you sick freak.

Tough to compare the two.   Ali was a true boxer whereas Tyson was a brawler.

For the record, before losing 1st professional fight:
Tyson:    37-0  33KOs  25 in the 1st 3 rounds
Ali:          31-0  25KOs  8 in the 1st 3 rounds

Yes, I understand Ali used opponents for practice.  His primary goal was never to knock out his opponent early in the fight.  Instead, he liked to show off his finesse and toy with his opponents but was also known for his explosiveness.

IMHO, it wouldn't have been a close fight.  Ali could fight Tyson's fight whereas Tyson could never fight Ali's fight.

Edited to add:  Ali was and still is a class act.  Tyson's act speaks for itself.    Roll Eyes

Two of the worst things that happened to boxing were Tyson and King. King is nothing more than a world class hustler and Tyson was his pawn. King is only out for #1. Tyson should have been banned for life after that ear biting stunt. At times it sure seems pro boxing has become more like professional wrestling. Surely Tyson would have become one of the all time greats but money, King and his warped mind put an end to that. What a waste of talent.

Dude I loved his (King) appearance in Devils Advocate, it was without question a fitting role Grin

And I definately agree boxing at times seems fixed. Thats Vegas for ya. I saw it all fall to shit when Haglar kicked Sugar Rays a$$ and the judges saw it differently. Thats where it seemed obvious to me somethings wrong.
