Has anybody tried it. I'm about to go to the doc for the 02. I have used cafergot with limited success in the past, but found the ergotamine injection worked pretty good., but terribly expensive. I don't recall the aerosol version being available the last time I had these, about 6 years ago?

I have had clusters since age 20 which makes me a 20 year veteran. 12 week cycles yearly through my 20's and early 30's. Four cycle since age 33. Yes, I have been diagnosed with clusters.

M, I use cafergot and DHE (when cafergot doesn't do it), but have not heard about the aerosol. How long has that been on the market. Have a call in to my neuro trying to find out something. He's out of the office today (hot golf game I guess - he'd kill me for that one!) but as soon as I know something I'll let you know. If you find out something, please post it. Sounds like it would work faster. Hugs BD

Sorry for not responding right away. I just got back from the Doc and have been given a prescription for Ergotamine 2mg tablet that you place under tongue. The aerosol is available in some countries, but the doc could not find any sources of it in the US. She was hoping I might be able to find the common name of the product. I will have to do some more research. For the fellow using cafergot, the med reduced my clusters dramatically, but when I got one it was usually a real winner. The other thing with the cafergot is that it is so loaded with caffeine, I felt awful even when I didn't have a CH. Matt

Exactly how does the "aerosol" delivery mechanism work? Is it like Stadol Nose Spray--you shove the spray part up your nostril and push it down to release the Stadol in a spray form? Just curious.... Always interested in delivery systems.

I am not certain of the delivery. The doc I saw thought it may be an oral inhaler. I am still not certain as to its availability in the US. Matt

| My insurance never covered it. DHE used to be about $10 a shot -- the last I bought was about $45 per. At the time - I would have given up eating to get some relief, so ..... Forgot how much the cafergot pills are, but I'm not going to do without them when I need them. Geezz, if I had 1/2 the money I've spent on meds -- I could go ahead and retire and ...... oh wishful thinking... For now, I'll just keeping making my pharamist's house payments.

I used the ergotamin inhaler some years back. It's a deal that looks and works like an astma inhaler. It's not available in the US any more. The sublingual tablets are the second best if you are going to use ergotamine.

Maybe you guys are right ... maybe it's not available in the US anymore. But...if anyone is legally able to make it ... these people can. "Pharmacy Solutions" (734) 821-8000 5204 Jackson Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48103 They can make any medication into pills, tablets, sprays, gels, lollipops, gummy bears, etc. Might be worth asking them about it ..
