Music & CH?

Over the weekend, I met a number of clusterheads that are also involved with music. Personally, during a hit, I've found that playing piano quietly really seems to help a lot. Exactly why, I don't know. It seems to be more than a matter of simply changing my focus.

For those of you who play instruments or enjoy listening to music, have you found that it helps during an attack? Any theories as to why it seems to help? (If you've found that it does...) Thanks.

Music is the comfort that comes after an attack. During a cluster, I can't focus on anything except trying to remain calm and not freak out and make it so much worse. But afterwards I'll play guitar, I'll sing, I'll write, or I'll turn on a CD for some comfort from a stranger.

Peace,

I'm surrounded by all kinds of synthesizers and recording equipment...
But even looking at it, let alone playing it during a hit is not an option for me.

I play my guitar a lot when I'm having a bad CH.

I try to stay from my nicer guitars but I have a special $120 one that gets abused when I'm hurting bad. It kind of distracts me from the CH a little.

I've been a pro musician since '79 but didn't start getting clusters until 4 yrs. ago. I've been hit a couple of times while playing  before  I was on meds and I think it did help me to fight through it. It might have been the fact that it's a drag to fuck up in front of people and you become focused on not making a mistake. I can't say for sure that the music soothed my head though. The mental process of making the music could be an abortive however. I feel a cluster in some ways is brought on by the state of mind your in at the time. Doing some thing like playing music raises adrenilin levels- in my case at least and changes my brain in some way.
When I let down after the gig is when I can get hit bigtime.

Me too April... always some stupid song or even a good song but it still drives me crazy.

I'll try heading for the guitar next cycle, but it doesn't seem like it's possible.  You guys can actually play music, or do you just break strings?

Is it illegal because it's dangerous or is it dangerous because it's illegal? Our drug laws are ruining lives.

This is why I said that I stay away from my nicer guitars when I'm having an attack.

I don't break strings but sometimes I drop the guitar or beat my head against it.

BTW: I can actually play music during an attack but it always comes out as blues.
