Fubar! And fellow supporters!

Quote:Damn... I so hoped this flight would go well since it was my gift to you Dave. Damn Damn Damn. |
| No matter what happened with United Airlines ... don't even think of feeling bad Shawn! If it weren't for your gift of the air miles, I'd have never been able to make it to Nashville anyway! Even knowing now what would have happened, I'd have done it all over again just to have been there as long as I was. Our family of fellow CH'ers were with me in person at times and always there in spirit, I knew that, and that was enough. Will I fly again next year ... LOL! I wouldn't count on it United really starting feeding everyone all kinds of lame excuses after 6:00 PM. Having already heard 12 hours of them, and Clusters starting to kick in ... well ... I kind of became the "spokesman" for a packing smoking room of restless people. Ever notice how a a CH'er can draw attention when they're getting hit, getting mad and frustrated? Well of course I got a lot a people riled as well, so a group of us went up and demanded truthful answers. They got the person in charge up there then! She had to get on the mic and try to settle everyone down and made all kinds of promises (blamed it on mechanical problems). They flew in another plane and had us on board 45 minutes later. Now of course you've got to take into consideration that Dave just can't get by with anything ever going perfect. I got myself strapped in tight, and had told the other passengers they weren't getting me off the plane again. So ... of course ... I'm in my seat with my ticket and up comes someone with the same seat ticket After a little "wrestling match" the steward got the ticket out of my hand and I just cinched my belt tighter. When they came back, they said they figured they could fit us all in. Of course I had to coment that I had been promised First Class seating for all the problems, but was back in coach. They said they could remove someone from First Class and give me that seat ... I said I'd be fine if you just get me home. But ... the other passengers starting chanting ... "First Class" ... First Class" on and on. That boosted me and I said . Yeah, give me the First Class seat!" Everyone cheered ... especially when we found out the chair was being used by another steward who was just catching a ride! LOL! So once we switched I had to show everyone my little cute napkin blanket and matching loaf of bread sized pilow and how I got Chex Mix instead of pretzels! Everyone ended up getting a good laugh about it and we had a good trip back from there. That was the Dave who was supposed to be like that when trying to stumble through his opening meeting speech! Guess I need something to get me going before people get to see the real side of me. So all in all I learned something, had I just been myself before the Membership Meeting instead of trying to be what I though was expected of me, everyone would have heard and seen the "real" me and I could have pulled that opening off far better than I did. So, if I speak again in front of everyone in public, feel free to piss me off, give me some time to mull it over ... then let me find the humor in it and don't give a damn attitude causing me to drop all the nervousness and just be myself! I know I opened a door on that one ... but I'll take it ... it's the life I really live. (And that Riley guy next door thinks his lifes a mess ...hmmm ... welcome to our world!) Thanks for the help fubar ... and also all of you who helped get me there ... and were even kind enough to try to make me think that was anything close to an opening welcome speech You're all great! Dave ( I know, how can I still be awake? This is my life )

Dave, your speech was just fine. Funny story: Dave got to the hotel late on Friday night. I was standing outside having a smoke. We began talking, and I asked if he was with the OUCH convention. He said, "Yeah... I'm the president of OUCH." WHOOPS!! LOL! Certainly not the first time I've made an ass of myself, but definitely one of the best!

Dave that is one hell of a story, but somehow it doesn't surprise me one bit!!! You really did an excellent job - you really did! Going with the the flow after umpteen hours of travel, few hours of sleep and a room full of waiting people takes a lot of decorum and poise to pull off as you did. As Kimmy would say, ya did swell ! Plus you got to shorten your speech, I'd say that saved you a lot of grief huh.. LOL. CHex mix, Chex mix, Chex mix ..... I could just see that grin right now LOL!!! Good to know you're home safe, it was an honor to meet you. PFDAN's, Pep

Dave, I am so glad to hear your home safe and sound. You had me pretty worried there for a bit. I would also like to say that I apoligize for waking you as no one told me that you got in so late. I could have saved you from your opening speech. Well we did let you sleep in for an hour and a half so you didn't have to do the entire thing if that is any kind of help. I want to say that our talk Sat. and into Sunday was one I will never forget. My attitude during the convention on Sat. was starting to change about OUCH but our talk gave me the final puch I needed to stay and start becoming more of OUCH. You take care of yourself and your family and relax now that your home. I'll be in touch soon. Dave

It sounds like the miles were well spent, so I'm relieved in one respect. However, it still pisses me off that United has become such a nightmare of an airline. I feel bad for making you and Redd suffer... I've had my fair share of problems on United, but I've flown about 3 million miles and it's hard to avoid them when the company is the one buying the tickets most of the time. It sounds like I missed a great time, nut it does me good to know I was there in spirit. -Fu
