This really blows...

Some time ago Jackie sent me a bunch of black T-shirts to airbrush. I did just that and made a sample of the design I had in mind and it looked fabulous....I was very pleased at the time.
Well....to my dismay the idea went belly up. I pressed the shirt with a hot iron (standard practice) and washed it in cold water on gentle cycle (also standard practice) the design should have "set" into the fabric when I ironed it.....anyhow, to make a long story short....the design all but washed out leaving only a trace of what it originally showed.
I do not know if this is because of the paint I used or if its because it didn't "set" properly or what, in either case I am back to square ONE. And now I have a box of shirts that I can do nothing with until I figure out what went wrong. I am REALLY REALLY disappointed right now...as I had hoped to be able to go live with these right after convention.
Looks like its back to the drawing board for me.....DAMNIT! Angry

Did you wash the shirts before you did the work on them.  If you didn't the filler in the fabric will just absorb the paints and then when washed, it just goes out with the filler.

One of the many tricks about sewing and working with fabrics.  Wash everything before you either put scissors or paint to it.

Hope this helps.

Any fabric of thought I'd have about getting this ironed out got washed away years ago.

P.S. My OUCH sweatshirt says on the back of the label: DO NOT IRON DECORATION.  That's all I got.  Also, it is preshrunk.

Sorry to hear Cerebus buddy.

I guess on the bright sight, practice makes perfect. However I am sure they were in the first place. Good luck with your investigation.

Hey dude......sorry about what happen'd........I'll ask Brad about it and see what he knows......he's a printer and knows aobut everything there is to know about ink.......not sure if this is his area tho. But I'll try and ask him in the morning. I recently had a shirt made for a freind and had it silk screen'd. The guy told me it had to be set at a certain temp for so long or so many seconds to SET properly. Otherwise it would not stay on or last long or fade off real quick with washings. Dunno if any of that helps cuz you did airbrushing......but don't know if the heat you applied had anything to do with it with maybe needing a certain temp so long to SET IT. Am I makeing sense or talkin out my ass.....I'm obviously not knowledgeable in this area.

Ramon, [edit...Grant... what was I thinking?],

Maybe next time, unless you're convinced you have a technique that will work for sure, do one shirt as a test run before you invest all that incredible talent and effort into a whole batch.  Once you find the secret (could be as simple as washing twice before applying the airbrush) then you can do whole batches with confidence.

Carol is right about washing the shorts first. All material needs to be washed be fore you to anything to it to alter it. THere are larts of the shirt that are "MEANT: to wash ou in the first wash, that that is something gets on them in trasport then they can be cleaned and no harm no foul. And your paints coud easily have attached to these.

PS Sorry I could not meet you when you where here.  Cry
