Looks like he needs a shave, Steve...  but seriously, I photographed a tarantula in the middle of the road going up a mountain in New Mexico. I got out of my car, laid in the road about 2 feet away from it and started snapping away. It was raising it's legs, like it was posing for me (I'm sure it was trying to threaten me).
Very cool photo.

Speaking of tarantulas, in these parts we have a yearly tarantula migration. There are parts of the road from San Jose to Mt. Hamilton Observatory where the road has hundreds of the monsters crossing (slowly) during certain times of the day during migration. This happens to be about twilight, the worst time for seeing anything, and the first time I saw this amzing scene I was already in the middle of it on my motorcycle. Now let me tell you... I almost crapped my shorts. I had rolled to a stop to see what all the 'things' were, and since I already need glasses, and it was twilight, and I was moving fast before I stopped... well it only occured to me they were tarantulas after I stopped the bike. Then, with my heart racing and head spinning from abject fear, I had to ride through about 1/2 mile of thousands more of these things... unable to avoid hitting quite a few (among 100's of already squished monsters).
Gonna take lot's of therapy to get that one out of my mind.

If I looked down and seen onea them things on my leg or anywhere I'd of went balistic and ended up in a psyco ward after falin off first freakin out! I'd have the creepy crawlies for ever !! How long did it take ta get the spider guts off yer bike..............ewwwwww jus the thought and visual is givein me the willies.

Oh Pam  I would be thinking the exact same thing. I don't mean to laugh, but you put it so well.  I could handle one in the road, but two? or more? No fucken way!! Fu, you must have come pretty close in your shorts! If those fuckers got on me, I'd be freakin out too!
