So my friend asks me to try and find out how much these 2 books are worth. I don't know where to begin. Anyone know of an online source for finding out this info? Book1 - "The Poetical Works Of Alfred Lord Tennyson, Poet Laureate". Published in New York by Thomas Y. Crowell & Co. Book published and dated 1830. Book2 - "Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn (Tom Sawyer's Comrade)" by Mark Twain. New York, Charles L. Webster & Co. DATED 1893. Note: On the inside cover of this book, there is a handwritten messsage that says, "Leonard from Mel, X-Mas 1901" Any help appreciated Unsolved

Usually the age of the book means nothing. However, you can see on the title page (usually) if it is a first print and lots of other details. Go to a book shop that specializes in old print and you should be able to get an idea. And if they say something like "Yeah, it's really not worth much but I'll buy it from you..." get a second and third opinion because it might be worth a lot.

fubar is right . . .first editions are what you want them to be (unless there's something going for the second etc edition, such as signed by the author . . .AND, if they say they aren't worth much, but offer to buy . . .then they are . . .. the dealer doesn't want to buy somehting that 'isn't worth much' . . . *positive light and energy* miapet edit: if there are hand colored/painted/engraved picutres, there may be a small market, even if it's not a 1st edition . . .but your friend would have to find those people. AND, it depends on the condition of the books .. .cover, pages, etc . .

Everybody is right unfortunately. These are the books everybody had. Firsts of these are pretty good but later editions were sold even door to door. I have a Tennyson too from the 1890s I think but it's a wreck and the title pages are missing. Good reading though. Just too common. Charlie
