What Prof. Goadsby said....

I thought people would like to know what he said at the London meeting of OUCHUK on June 27th. First of all I would like to say this is my personal recollection of what was said and certainly is not an OUCH UK official statement. Firstly anecdotaly he said he had a patient who had cut his own eye out with a knife and that his youngest patient was one year old-God help the poor kid and his/her parents! Secondly it seems that the reason we suffer is because of our malformed posterior hypothalmus and he showed pictures of abnormal activity in this area of the brain whilst an attack was happening. Thirdly when talking about new developments he said that some success may be shown by a new abortive that doesn't act as a vasoconstrictor and could therefore be used by clusterheads with heart problems and I apologise because I can't remember the name. This is still in the early stages. Fourthly someone asked him about Imitrex/gran injections extending cycles and he replied they "probably" did. The same questionner then said and how about verapormil? To which he replied "yes probably" Now a lot of this isn't really good news and I thought long and hard before I posted this but then I thought you'd rather know. Take care Filbert.

Goadsby told me the same thing about imitrex in Rome when I asked him about extended cycles. He didn't mention the verapamil though. That somehow doesn't make sense to me if the verapamil is being used as a preventative.

Don Have a read of the thread on the Meds board started by Floridian about Imitrex increases headaches for some laymen's theories about why abortives and preventives MAY lengthen/worsen cycles.(sorry, forgotten how to post a link to it) It's at minimum interesting. Wendy P.S. Sorry Filbert, those slides of the hypothalamus must be getting a bit worn by now. The Prof shows them at all his talks, and so he should because he was the one who discovered the hypothalamus problem. You might also be interested to know how he got them, several people (who you know) allowed themselves to have an attack artificially triggered, then lay still in the scanner DURING an attack. It is a composite of several people's brains. Now they ARE brave!

Filbert . . thank you for sharing your recall of what Dr. Goadsby said! Great information . . .even if it isn't what people would like to hear . . .research doesn't mean we only get good news . .. but if they find what doesn't work, imo, they will get closer to finding what does. You and pubgirl are very fortunate to have been able to hear him speak. *positive light and energy* miapet

Heya Fil, Thanks for the info. We need to hear from the medical community more often.....like.....weekly. We are hungry for info, by nature. Many CH cretins have their eyes locked to a monitor 24/7. It's the way we are. Wish I could read your board, but y'all are askin us to send in 10 POUNDS of money. Can we pay in Pennies (or would that be Pence)? Quote: Firstly... cut eye out with a knife |
| That's definitely Al Queda CH......not the norm, but it must have been a great pix....... Quote: Secondly....malformed posterior hypothalmus |
| Wouldn't know a good one if I saw it. Got pix? Quote: Thirdly......a new abortive doesn't act as vasoconstrictor could be used with heart problems I can't remember the name. |
| Awwwwwww......man........can't rememeber the Name? The judges give you a 2.1 Quote: Fourthly Imitrex/gran injections extending cycles.. verapormil "yes probably" this isn't really good news I thought you'd rather know. |
| The proverbial Cat's out of the bag, mate. There's some folks around here that support No Meds, Get Tuff, Stay Short. Personally, I think these people are FUCKED, but, then again, I'm a mild episodic, and shouldn't be allowed to vote. Filthy Chronics are a whole `nother story. Thanks Again for an international report. Am in your debt. Any news is good news........or something like that. We'll pay double for black market pix of the presentation. If only you didn't want Pounds of money....... RJ

See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/380497.stm for an article from 1999 with Goadsby and the brain images showing the hypothalamic activity. Wendy P.S. You don't need to be a member of OUCH UK to see the information there, anyone can go and read it, the membership applies to the Members message board.

RevdeFord I see it! I see it! No more need to find the cause. We are all abductees and had aliens implanted in us on silver flying saucers. Then they put us back on earth but wiped our memories of the whole event. That's why the hypothalamic implant may work, when they implant the stimulator, the alien doesn't like getting the electric shocks, so it leaves. It's all making sense now...... Wendy

Good to see that the alien apparently has toothache - at least some revenge on our part. Scarier still is the fact that my noggin is one of the ones they used for the composite image.... Dolly
