When's the last time you had an attack with no med

when was the last time you had to ride the storm of the beast out. With no 02 and no trex, no pills, no nothing.
I know mine was a few years ago since I have had such great help. I just kill the bastard each time he knocks at my door. Sometimes he gets inside and looks like he's going to make himself at home, but I still manage to kick him out. I have been very lucky and think it's about 4 years ago that I had to writhe around in agony for 2 hours. I love my meds and I love abortives. Beleive me I have got through a LOT of abortives.

Good question! For me it was a few months ago, April, I think. I had just met and had lunch with Elaine(and no, that had nothing to do with it) and I had decided to go off all meds completely. I had made the decision mostly for financial reasons. Big Mistake! I got hit and I got hit hard! Eight times in one day, K7-9. I rode 'em out and the next day, I refilled the lithium and verap and called and begged some trex samples off my neuro. It took a few days for everything to more or less get back to normal.

Unfortunately that'd be last Tuesday while driving back from Indiana. Forgot the O2 for the trip & no meds (other than the verap that the beast is prying through) Nothing but AC on high & the dashboard to bang my head against.

2000 in my old house, I was banging my head on the ground near the fireplace. I remember I was struck with suprise at the sheer amount of pain, I remember thinking afterwards how it must be impossible to remember the level of pain in a ch because the brain just does not have the power to retain it.
There was one after that but I went into meditation for that one, since then I have always gone into meditation for a CH shadow. I thought it was something special about the meditative process itself but I think now it was the act of placing my attention on the pain, following it to the source, near the center of my back, and placing my attention there. Anyway, it worked for me and still seems to.

There have been times of forgotten aborts here and there and pharmacy problems in the past, but '97 was the last year.

I did it med free for 20 years before coming to this board. Now I use Imitrex. Kicks butt every time.

About 5 months ago.
Was at a friends house. The bitch visited... went for my jacket with the Trex... wrong fucking jacket.
Rode a 9'er for about an hour.
They knew something was fucked when they heard the shower. Scalded my head (with little effect, as we all know).

For the first four years of headaches I had nothing....nada, zip. I then discovered imitrex injections and during the past year O2. Fortunately for me I've been relatively pain free since June 14, 03 with exception of one attack in October '03 and some minor shadows in February '04.

Last Friday...got hit while working at the boss' house.
No 02 there (there is now), No meds in my purse (now it looks like a pharmacy).
Not a fun day...used an ice pack on the back of my neck and another on my forehead and rode out an 8 in front of the boss....She had the NERVE to ask me to fix her wireless router IN THE MIDDLE OF ALL THAT!! I just looked at her with one swollen eye and my nose running 90 to nothing and said "Oh sure, I'll get right on that!" and kept on rocking back and forth in my chair...
Some people just DON'T get it!! Even when you put it right under thier )*&*^%&$%& NOSE!!
I am much better now!

D did it in the beginning (about 20 years ago) because none of the docs knew what the hell was going on . . .most recently he did it for the last 10 years (give or take a couple) until this year, when he got o2 (neuro gave him a pred taper and cafergot, but it only worked the first couple of days) . . . the time inbetween, he tried every freaking drug known in the ch tool box . . none of them worked . . .
Oh, and in the past 20 years .. he was chronic the entire time.

Oct '02. I was about 30 miles from home, had about a half a beer (duh, should've known better) and BAM!
No 'trex so we made a quick exit and I beat the shit out of the inside of the car with my head all the way home while my wife drove.

It was during my last cycle in early July then late August. I tend to hoard my trex as much as possible and ride out any low kip attacks.

Since I got the Verap and Lithium high enough to blunt them somewhat I have gone without any abortives at all. I usually can't get to the O2 early enough for it to work for me, so I don't bother with it any more, and the preventatives have shortened them to where I can handle them for the most part by focusing my mind and being active. (Still hurts!)

Still remember the pain of no med like it was 5 minutes ago. Guess it ain't something you EVER forget.

Last cycle. Took a week to get my preventatives authorized by my insurance company, but that is what lead me to try melatonin, so it was worth it.

Like so many, I rode mine out for years before I found this place. By far, the worst one was on my anniversary, a couple of years ago. My wife and I had gone to a nice restaurant in the middle of an upscale plaza. I got hit just after ordering our food. I went door to door in that plaza, asking for aspirin. Finally, some kind soul gave me an aspirin, but of course, that didn't work worth a damn. 
This last cycle, I was on a very low dose of Verapamil and that seemed to do the trick. Like Mel, I hoarded my Imitrex for the really BAD ones, and for the lesser ones, I used meditation to get through. Sitting at the piano and playing softly seems to have a wonderfully dulling effect on the pain, as well.
