Anyone pass these to thier kids?

Unfortunatley, I've had these damn headaches since I was 14, now 25, I have a one and two year old. I would not wish these headaches on my worst enemy, and God knows I have a few! I do have an absolute horrifying fear that I will pass these to my children. I WOULD ABSOLUTELY DIE if they get them. Have any of you passed these headaches to your children? (please tell me no!)

Unfortunately some parents that have Ch have kids with Ch but I'm with you. I hope mine are spared also.
On the brighter side, if they do, they are much better off than we were 20 something years ago. We've come along way with medical education and treatments

My son who is now 6 has had 3-4 in his life.... I would take 300 to those 3-4 that he has had.... He has absolutely no understanding of them at all....

My daughter (now 12, grade A student) has has a very short cycle with regularity, and while I used to attribute it to sympathy pains, now I'm convinced I did this to her. Horrifying.

Not here. Got twins from hell, 16, and wimmen They're a PITA, but no CH stuff. Didn't get started till I was in my 40's, tho. At worst, you should have a dozen years, if cards follow suit. There's no significant clinical evidence of passing on the horror, but if it can happen, it might. Don't worry till you're told to worry.

hereditary = genes, since I have an identical twin brother who has never had a ch, and identical meaning an identical set of genes, I have come to a natural conclusion that it ain't gonna be passed via hereditary, at least gene-wise, hope i m right

I hope that neither of my kids get these. My 2 year old, does get sinus type HA, but nothing that a little decongestant and tylenol does not stop.
Like Happy said, just keep your eyes open and dont worry until you have to worry.

I think the current view (thought this may change) is that there is almost definitely a genetic factor (hence the monozygotic twin research) but that it takes X other factors, as yet unidentified, to cause Ch to actually manifest.
i.e. many more people (possibly our family members) may have a genetic disposition but that does not mean they will develop the condition.
I hope for you (and my son too as I dread it like you do) that they have neither inherited the rogue gene, and if they have the other factors never come into play so they stay CH free.

My grandmother and mom both had them. Both have diminished with time. However, my grandmother still gets a cycle about every 3 years now, instead of every year.

Not sure but my daughter went through a spell of about 2-3 weeks where she was crying almost constantly and pulling at her hair/clawing at the side of her head/scratching at her eye/etc... This was when she was only about 9 months old and she couldn't even explain what was going on.
We had her in the emergency room eventually trying to figure out WTF was going on. The ER people didn't have a clue and they ordered a spinal tap thinking she might have meningitis. I would rather cut my arms off than see her go through that crap again. We never got any definite answer from the ER people except that she probably had some kind of virus.
Now that she is 3 years old, I sometimes see her sitting around pressing her hand against her eyeball. I ask her why she's doing this and she says "My eye hurts Daddy".
Pleas God, Don't let her have these things. I'll take them for her if I can.

I think the odds ratio (increased risk) is aound 7x - the overall population has 1 to 4 clusterheads per 1000 people. Among those with a close blood relative that has CH, the rate is 7 to 24 per 1000.
So the risk does rise, but is still low. Rounding up, if these numbers are correct, a clusterhead's child would have a 2.5% chance of also getting clusters in their life.

No kids here, and from what I'm reading, I am never gonna have children. If there is a chance that I might pass this horror to an innocent child, no way I could live with the sorrow of the pain that my children had to endure.

I have recently reconciled with my father after 15 years of estrangement. He had some time with "something", and what he explained sounded like CH, but not quite as bad. It certainly wasn't migraine though.
My Grandparents on my dad's side all suffered with migraines, and my grandparents on my mum's side too. My sister get's migraines.

It's a personal decision each of us have to make - I can understand people coming in on either side of this question, and for them, its the right answer. My daughter was born before my CH started, but I don't think it would have changed anything for me. Having kids always involves risks - no shortage of terrible genetic diseases, although most children are healthy. I am also optomistic about the future of CH treatments, though it may take years or decades, it will improve.

Well yes, I guess so. My son, 43 started in his late 20's but there has not yet been a genetic link. But then, who studies CH, there just aint no money in it. The bottom line!

I don't know about that Kip, there's plenty of money in it, 12 years Ch, $54,000.00 out of my pocket, hmmmmmm wonder how many Migraine patients have spent that much in the last 12 years? hmmmmmmmm

My sister and nephew both have the migraines with aura, and further back others on my mothers side have had them but I'm the only one that was given the CHs. Then again I don't know who my father was so maybe it came from that side. Who knows. Just hope I don't pass it on. Stuey

edited for memory: I remember discussing CH with my paternal great grandmother. She got them too. She didn't know what they were called, but the eye pain, the instant on and instant off of the pain, watering eye, ruuning nose. She would get them at the same times of day and night. And she got migraines too. And so did her mother... interesting...

There is a major study going on right now into the possible genetic factor in CH sufferers by a Professor at Leicester University. He took blood samples from over 200 Ch sufferers and their families, which I think is quite a good sample.

My kids are 30, 32, and 39. They all get migraines, as does my 10 year old grandson. That seems to come from my side of the family - my grandma, my mom, me and down the line.
Thank God, none of them have ever experienced the nightmare of CH and hopefully never will.
