Here we go again. http://www.theregister.com/2004/06/30/ie_malware_attack/ It is suggested by all the Computer Security folks that you change your web browser to something safe. Mozilla, Opera, Safari and Netscape are all free to download and easy to install. Ueli uses Opera from http://www.opera.com For those wanting one used by someone from an alternate reality. Mr. Happy uses Mozilla Firefox from http://mozilla.org Opus uses Mozilla and Konquorer. I use Lynx 2.8.3. You may envy me. Except for Lynx. They are all extremely easy to download, install and use. Be carefull out there. We're pulling for ya.

Root, Sounds great, now can you convince my wife, despite telling her that IE and outlook can't be fixed, and installing Firefox and Thunderbird to her computer and setting them up with her bookmarks and mail she still uses all M$. I have got her into some great games on Linux but she wants the win32 ports. I swear she must have secret stock in Microsoft. Oh well, I hope she knows I have fixed my last M$ partition and when hers goes she will end up with SuSE. Opus/Paul

Wouldn't a WINE implimentation do the the trick. You might have to copy the DLLs off a 98SE disk to make all the games work. I think YAST might be a big help to you there. I'll make a SuSE 9.0 partition on a AMD 550 machine and see if Diablo2 LOD will work on it. I'll send ya my notes if it does.

Hey Root, Thanks for the update! And hey Paul, can I ever relate to you! My wife too, refuses to give up IE. I use Mozilla Firefox. She has not been too happy with me since I disabled scripts and Active X. I think I may have found a way to turn them back on though. If I install this BHO Cop http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1618617,00.asp that PC Mag offers, will that CMA? I'm not very puter savvy and could use some help here. Thanks, Alley

Root, Actually she wants to use the GNU games on Win98, I got her frozen bubbles, but that is as far as I am going. My main trouble right now is lack of hard drive space, because of lack of money. Plus I still need to get a machine set up for myself, a small dual processor server would be nice, but I will probably have to settle for a MB that will run my 600MHZ slot 1 PIII. I have tried wine in SuSE, the RPM's don't provide winesetup and even though I have installed it I haven't gotten it to work. I will try a Mandrake RPM next. SuSE also refuses to mount the Win98 partition, so that's why I probably couldn't get my daughters games to work that worked fine in wine in mandrake 9.2. Yast is a great tool, the only problem so far is using it to let samba server through the firewall, I may have to look on bugzilla. Alley, I tried one of those programs and I found nothing bad on IE, it seems spybot does stop them well, I am sending you an email of a bunch of free programs that should help you. Opus/Paul

I've always found that if you want to do a dual boot with Windows and Linux...you gotta have Windows installed first, create the partition, then install your favorite flavor of Linux. ~Jake Anybody have a preference on Ethereal?

I'm usein Mozilla Firefox now but it is slow as molassas.......not sure what that's all about but this entire new PC is slow.....even to just change in my mail from inbox to sent items......takes forever and takes so long to shut down I have had to hit the surge protector and jus say screw it cuz a bad storm had hit with ligtening everywhere. Not overheating now like it was.....but it hasn't been as hot here either. I get kicked offline every 10 to 20 seconds 'nonstop' too and the redialing is annoying.....but think that is my cables.....too long with no phone jack inbetween and sliced wires into the computer. Bad quick rig job Pam I let my online banking account expire and they even called me bout it and left a message.....huh......kinda felt it wasn't real safe doin that ????

Paul: Try this for the kids Win32 games http://freshmeat.net/projects/cedega/ it is a new version of WineX. Cootie: If Firefox is running slow, you have a problem with your machine. If you really want speed try browsing the net with Lynx. Jhammer: You mean in comparison to something like "tcpdump"? Ethereal had a patch listed awhile back, but it is as good as anything out there for most purposes IMHO. Have lottsa fun

Good news, my wife is now using firefox, I had her look at the extensions and themes, and she picked what she wanted and loaded the tool bars and all is well. She even remarked "it's so fast", I guess a little eye candy was all that was needed. Root, Cooties machine was built by someone that thought the fastest processor was the best, but they didn't know a thing about cooling. I bet they used the cheapest MB, probably has a 233 buss, and the hottest Pentium they could find. If there is anyone who lives near her that can see what her box needs, she really need the help. I didn't realize you could compile the source code for winex, I'll check it out after I get through all the licenses, you know how us GPL guys are. Opus/Paul
