I don't understand the comment about deceit, deception, and manipulation. What's that all about?

Does this friend go on to say what if anything we should do about it? Misdiagnosed people are one thing. We do a pretty darn good job of correcting misinformation. Most people, when they realize they have been misdiagnosed, either by themselves or by a doctor, move on to a place better suited to their needs. For these people who are lonely and/or in despair, what could we do about it? What would we really want to do? Anyone of moderate intelligence can read the plethora of information available here and "Fake it," though some are better at it than others. People have a strong need to belong to and be accepted by a group. Hell, that's one reason why we are here and why it feels so good when we find this place. Some people are so lonely in their lives, either due to shyness or actual dejection, that they will pretend to be something they are not in order to gain acceptance from a group - any group. The internet makes this much easier, since there is no face to face contact. I realize this is not the "Cluster Headaches and Lonely Hearts Club." The question is, what harm do they actually do, versus the good we do by giving them that acceptance and thereby keeping them from possibly sinking deeper into their despair. Gator Or do we hunt them down and kill them?

Hey, it's food for thought, I have my own opinion on what the statement is worth, I think it has merit. You may not, do with it what you will.

My wife has a semi-friend with Munchausen Syndrome. Different rare disease every 6 months, though no obvious outward symptoms aside from whining. Had two major house fires in the past 20 months. You know the story.

I don't get it. WTF is this conversation about? Med advise to newbies has been discussed... We're not writing scripts, just discussing things that work... Quote:All of you provide support, love, information and such insight into this rare and horrific condition, your love and support at times, unconditional, the struggle is too see the abuse of that priviledge... the welcoming of all, the support of all, underlying is deceit, deception and manipulation by some to join, whether it is by means of their own despair, loneliness or misdiagnosis, I struggle in seeing this abuse of your love and frienship daily.... |
| Does that make sense to anyone? Is english the primary language for the person that wrote that? I'm gonna run it through Babblefish and see if that helps... Clueless...

| That said, it is pretty easy to fake. Crippling affliction, but you could not pick one off the street unless you had Mel's gift for spotting the droopy eye at 100 meters. The perfect 'woe is me' malady. By our nature we tend to isolate ourselves when being hammered by one. I can count on one hand the number of people who have seen me get hit hard. Wrok

No, we are not writing scripts, but can you imagine what could happen if someone that we let hang here (That does not have CH or supports) PM's a newbie that is desperate for any relief that they should try another triptan along with the one they are taking? This newbie will see this person as a regular here and think they know what they are talking about. .................................jonny

| Well, I agree that would be assinine... Hopefully that doesn't happen much, the person or people involved are smarter than that, or at least the doc doesn't let that happen. So we are in agreement about that... But this is a secondary conversation.... Could someone please translate the quote? What the fuck does it mean? What is the food for thought? Right now it looks like one of those blended "shakes" they drink on fear factor, full of dog penises and eyeballs and stuff. I don't get it.

C'mon. Just paraphrase it... I love making long sentences and using lot's of "...'s", and fancy words, but that quote just makes my brain spin. Simply put, what is the point? We are some evil cult looking to recruit people hiding our true intentions under the guise of support, love and friendship? And this person is "struggling" with this? I can very effectively discern even the most subtle nuances of meaning in 17th century poetry, but this quote leaves me feeling ignorant. Is it just that it's taken out of context? Is there some preceding topic or conversation that I missed? What are your thoughts about this ambiguous topic? Are you in agreement? Is this an attack against you? What's the morale of the story here?

No, you have it all backwards, the person is struggling with those who would take advantage of the love and support that goes on here, under the false pretenses that they are afflicted with this condition. And yes there is more to the conversation, however, I chose not to release this person's identity. Because they said what they said out of love and respect for those here who do support others.
