pokeeye bigcry

July every three years is rolling around again... moods are falling subtly, tempers are growing thinner... I see the signs that another cycle is coming for my husband, but I try to deny it and hope that this year the stretch of being pain free extends to 4 years... or maybe 5.  The last cycle was so bad that our local rural hospital told us not to come back to the ER, but drive the 20 miles to the larger hospital... there was nothing they could do for us.  (ok 250mg of demerol finally killed the pain...but the funny thingwas that as soon as the CH stopped, he was totally lucid!)

We have a new Neuro this year, she specializes in headaches...(why didn't I think of this sooner?)  Oh well, hind sight.  Anyway, we are trying Zomig, Neurontin, and DHE.  Each cycle something new... and that same renewed sence of hope that this time something will work.  By the time the cycle is over, usually 2 weeks, but last time 6 due to the rebounds from Amerge addiction, there is not enough hope in the world to keep him going.

He knows about this site, but I don't urge him, nor does he initialize a visit.  It is my belief that were he to see the 10%  that a certain treatment doesn't work for, that he would lose hope altogether.
Am I wrong?

You are so wrong, put a boot in his ass and get him here.

Who better to talk to than the people that know what your going through?

10% of a certain treatment is shit, just add another treatment to that one and it could work......took me years to find what works for me and the only reason I found it was cause I logged on to this site.

Hi mikki..........I am also a supporter here and Brad rarely gets on here (he's not a pooter guy and jus doesn't have the time actually).......but.....he has met some of these people and fell in love with them all.....and a little more willing to listen, learn and lean toward other type meds or treatments and try oxygen next round. You really hit close to home with me when you mentiond you could tell the next cycle was near.........Brad is due Sept/Oct.......and I am noticeing a change the past month. I noticed it last cycle......and found this place. Previous cycles were HELL and he was impossible to deal with.........but this place has made his hell a bit more pleasant. He has others to relate too. Hell bound Pam

Mikki,
Welcome!  We are glad you are here.
I too am bracing for the "attack".  I am due in July/Aug.  Have been having some shadows and subtle sensitivities to alcohol, etc.  My cycles last 3-4 months, and are every 2 years. I hope it doesn't come of course, but if it does, I am glad to have all of these wonderful clusterheads to lean on.
Maybe you could get your husband to take a trip to Nashville in July for the OUCH Convention???  We would all love to meet you and it would be a life changing event for your husband...and you.

Good luck.  Hope you stick around.

Big Hugs....Little Deb

I can identify and agree with every reply here.  OK, at first I bristled at Jonny's "severe" reply, but after several hours of contemplation, I can understand his point of view.  It probably would be better for him to get on here and see that he is not alone in this agony.

I am not a Cluster Head, but I want to pound my head against the wall everytime my husband has a headache, out of sheer frustration.  I want to rant rave and scream, but I don't know who to direct it towards!  The doctors?  They are (mostly) well meraning, but do not suffer from clusters...(One Dr. who later asked us to stop looking for narcotics in her ER said. "Oh, I've had headaches", and wanted him to take an advil!  His first Neuro told him to PACE)  OK now I'm rambling.  I am just so frustrated!  We can send a man to the moon, and a robot to Saturn, but no one can say what triggers these headaches?

Steve, (hubby) is not really into computers either... he struggles to type with two fingers.  His main thing is that he wants them to never come back, and would have his right arm cut off if this would guarentee he never have another cluster.  I think sometime he would rather deny them until they are upon him.

Thank you all for being here.  I feel that I can vent without boring everyone.

Yeah, the "denying them" part is the real trick, once they are upon him.  This is something he will need to get involved with for better treatment.  Go to doctors who specialize in headaches.  These are not common knowledge for doctors.  Oh, and read what's been compiled in the links to the left.  The earlier the better.

I'm with Jonny here. You never know.

It's true about doctors. They never have time for puter stuff. One asked me show him how to access ebay and others to look for old medical crap. He said to forget it afterwards as he would never have time to deal with it.

Doctors have horrible schdules.

Good luck Mikki

Mikki,

Welcome to the board....wish you didnt need us but glad you found us.

Let me begin by repeating something I read once...the only thing worse than a Clusterheadache is a loved one with CH.....I agree. I never thought much about the "Earthlings" affected by my CH till I came here.

I also had never "talked" to another Clusterhead till I came here...

I never knew about Oxygen till I came here...

I never knew so much about Clusterheadache Meds till I came here...

I never knew so much about other Clusterheads...

I never knew about O.U.C.H or The Convention...

I never knew a whole lot about a disease I was born with and may die with, but not from.

I urge you to get your Husband on-line.....good PC skills are not required and we have our fair share of geeks who are more than glad to help with computer problems......and CH... Grin

You can bristle all you want. It doesn't change the fact you are way off base in the thread over on the other board.

You are wrong.

Amerge is not physically addictive and you should not be implying that it is.

Your husband may have recieved bad advice and was using it daily as a preventative. It is not a preventative it is an abortive medication.

I suggest you read the following link as well as any others using Amerge that have read your misinformation.
