They are pretty large. I've seen them up-close and personal. They are camel spiders, though technically, not spiders. They jump from the sand and attach themselves to the bellies of camels. They get to be about palm-sized... Ferocious little devils... We used to put them in jars with scorpions. Most of the time, the spiders would win. They look MASSIVE in that photo, but compare their size with the soldier's sleeve in the photo, and you can see that they really aren't as big as they look.

Wow. Beat me to it. I was going to ask if that was a camel spider that our friend Jason mentioned. He mentioned the scorpians too.
Didn't have a clue that they were BIG "spiders.....

More related to termites, if I remember correctly. Still, they probably fall into the same family/class/genus as arachnidae, though. Spiders have two body parts: Head and abdomen. If you look at these guys, you can see that in addition, they have a thorax; more like insects. I'll bet if you breaded and fried them and used the right sauce, they'd be pretty tasty.

King of Pain's spider is a different kettle of fish altogether. Ye gods! iIts even bigger than our Avondale spiders who were the stars in Arachniphobia!! (which I didn't watch)

Growing up in the Mojave desert, rainy summer evenings were GREAT!! We'd be driving down the road and in the headlights, you could see tarantulas scuttling off of the road. Pretty damn cool...

Camel Spiders....Related to both the Scorpion & Spider Family...Grow up to 5inches accross, can run up to 10 mph...& are also found in the deserts of the western United States & Mexico.
They mainly feed at night & hide during the day. Their main food staples are crickets, pillbugs, & scorpions. They rely on their speed & stealth to catch their prey & have voracious appetites.
