Watch out, Thomas is on a mission to educate the world here! Good on you Thomas, it needs a reminder, but if you have found a way to make newbies read before they post you could make a fortune from all the people who host websites Wendy

There should be some sort of mandatory reading that's required at sign up, or something... But then again, I take some sort of joy in laughing at people and telling them they do not have cluster's. Purely because I don't want anyone to have them, not because I enjoy making fun of people that have no fucking clue how bad it is.

Hey Thomas, I'll add it to the list of things I have to give fellow nursing students if one of them winds up with a CH patient starting next week. I've got 3 headache textbooks (including Goadsby's on CH) and some info to print out to lend them. Thanks for the reminder! L2

| Actualy,I've had that idea myself, not mandatory exactly.Just a basic info outline with links to support each point of the outline. I am not good at putting things into type so I sent what I had to DonnaD to work on IF she gets time. It could then be posted and we could ask DJ to sticky it to the top,I'm thinking of the getting to know you and the cluster specific boards. It gets frustraiting talking to newbies and you don't know how much they know about CH.This "crash course on clusters" would give us a super simple post or link for us to point new people at.

Thomas has been getting rightfully irked at the rash notes on the boards akin to: 'I have been a CH sufferer since the age of 3. I get at least 100 a day, lasting 45 seconds each. They start with a shooting pain in my ass. I cure each one by standing on my head and jerking off. My brother, who is a vet, assures me this is CH. ' Rokk

Here's an idea how to "force feed" the newbies, and it costs nothing but a bit of DJ's time. When someone signs up to these message boards he gets an automatically generated e-mail with the password. To this mail the link Thomas put up could be added. PFNADs Ueli

Well, if you want to make it mandatory reading, it could be placed as part of the registration routine whereby the potential new member has to click that he has read the info. That will not, however keep people from just clicking that they read it and proceed on with the registration. You could also set a cookie on the info page and without that cookie being present, a person could not register. There again, that would not keep a person from scrolling down through the info without reading it and clicking that s/he has read it. It all boils down to the old "You can lead a horse to water" bit. You would think that if they were serious about wanting help, they would actually READ all the information. LMAO Rock! Gator

Well if I did it this way, I actually read this part. Hello and welcome!! We LOVE to have new visitors find OUR (that includes you) site. If you suffer from, or live with/love/care about someone who suffers from, Cluster Headaches, this is THE place for you! Our site can be a tumultuous, fast-moving, contentious world at times, but first and foremost, it is the most caring, compassionate, supportive family of cluster headache sufferers (and their supporters) in the world. There are a few things that seem to create misunderstandings in our little family at times, and they're the purpose behind this page. We have occasionally and unintentionally upset some new members of our family and we really feel bad when this happens. All of us were alone until we found clusterheadaches.com, and we really, really want you to enjoy the warm feelings you will have when you finally meet some other people who UNDERSTAND what you deal with. So, in an effort to prevent any misunderstandings, we offer the following suggestions: Research the site Familiarize yourself with the message board Netiquette and email Acronyms and 'cluster' words Your first post Looking for diagnosis? Are you a 'junkie' looking to sell (or buy) drugs? Welcome to our family! Research the site Please check out all the pages of the site. Use the Link Buttons on the left of the page. Read about clusters, check the medical info, scroll through the message board and the archives. Okay, you don't have to read every message and the entire archives, but run a few searches for specific info you may be looking for. Take the Cluster Quiz. It isn't medically approved or scientifically proven, but it's a real good way to get a handle on whether or not you have clusters. And don't forget to check out the AskDocGreg page. DocGreg is a regular reader of the board, a physician and a cluster headache sufferer himself. He's posted answers to some of the most Frequently Asked Questions. Come here looking for medical info or scientific research? Great. Check out the medical info and the links page buttons on the left. back to top Familiarize yourself with the message board It's probably a good idea to watch the Message Board for a bit before you post. Expecting nothing but technical discussions on the board? Ooops! Sorry. We are a family. We talk about everything. Some serious, some silly, some downright ridiculous. Lots of us find that laughter helps ease the emotional difficulties of dealing with a debilitating, permanent disorder that has no cure, no know cause and no truly effective treatments. But others prefer to confine their comments to serious discussions. There is plenty of room here for all. You can read every post or learn to skip over those that don't fit your wants and needs. Frequent posters, and we have many, tend to reveal much about their personalities in their posts. You are likely to find someone who you can relate to. Some of us are self-proclaimed analytical types, who tend toward serious discussions of a technical or scientific nature. Others are in the "touchy-feely" style, usually staying out of the analytical discussions but always quick to offer support, words of encouragement and a shoulder to cry on. back to top Netiquette and email It's considered good Netiquette to post your email address. Those who do will have their name in BLUE at the start of their post. Just click on it, and you can send them an email. Concerned about posting your email address? Can't do it because it belongs to the company you work for? Cool. Check out www.hotmail.com www.yahoo.com or any of the other free email providers and set up a special one just to use here.
