Project Submission

The recent newspaper article and the ensuing threads got me thinking about ways to draw attention to our plight. This may have been tried and failed, but I humbly submit it to the group for your approval. Start an organized campaign within OUCH and CH.com to do targeted mailings. Schedule a day at some future date where on that specific date everyone drops a letter into the post to a specific target - media, medical or insurance - pleading our case or in the case of the media asking for them to do a story about what we suffer from. The "everyone" would be both sufferers and supporters, each sending their own letter. We could post a "Sample" letter explaining who we are targetting on that day and an example of what we would like to say to them and a contact point for the recipient to respond to. Even if only half the membership participated, the target would receive over 3000 letters within about a week's timeframe from all over the world. That might catch someone's attention. Like I said I don't know if it has already been tried. The OUCH and CH.com bbs programs should be able to generate an e-mail to all registered members, telling them about the project and asking for support? I know our biggest problem will be getting people to agree to do it and then follow through. Isn't it sad to think we may be our own weakest link? Gator

Someone (OMG ... I feel really bad that I am not sure who was spearheading this effort) was doing letters to celebs ... like Oprah, etc. I have to say that I did the first few and then got kind of caught up in my own life (too much going on, ya da da da). Anyways, your idea is a good one, and one we should follow through on. We were doing it, but perhaps I missed this last months post on who we were targeting. Who was that masked man that was picking our targets ??????????

You're right. We did that with Oprah and some others. The thing is, it has to be snail mail. Legislators read only one or two mass e-mailings and delete the stuff. Also, no more than 3 not very long paragraphs, 2 is even better, works best. They have to be individual, at least in appearance and some text. Trust me. Newspapers, medical types and hospitals perhaps. Fuck the insurance people. They are criminals. Charlie

I think a "form letter" would be the best idea. Keep it individualised...but still a basic, clear, concise letter. maybe we could get someone to come up with one...everyone download it...reprint it...then mail it to who they feel is best. Am I following this right? I myself can't type worth a shit...or even word things in a "politically correct" fashion. Possibly we need a person with a perhaps legal background...or someone with exceptional letter writing skills. But I think I could come up with quite a few to mail it too.

I think we should all get together and do a movie..."Night of The Clusterheads". George Romero would have nothing on us!!!

It was Sommelier, and David has been MIA for some time..he was quite ill for awhile. He would be very gratified to know you were still talking about his efforts!! At any rate, gator, it is an excellent idea, and I am sure there are many who would participate...Luke has an excellent thought as well, make this the SAME words..the SAME voice-resounding....rising for ALL to heaR!!! ....I will be out of town for a few days, start without me, K? I'm not talking about 1 person sending out a hundred letters to a hundred different people. I'm also not talking about everyone sending letters to random entities. I am talking about as many as possible of the 6000+ people registered on this site sending a letter to one specific target. Say this week we hit 60 Minutes. Next week/month whatever we hit an insurance company, etc, etc. I agree a form letter format might be best way to go - written by someone well versed in whatever format the recipient ws used to reading. Legal for law groups, medical for medical groups, etc. Gator
