OK.....As you all know'The post Gazette did the article...and I wanted to thank The editor, Virginia Linn for doing it. Anyhow..my sister-in-law owns a nursery..so I had her deliver this GIANT(like 7 ft.) Ficus tree to Virginia thanking her with a wonderful note from all of us. FUCK ME!!!! She's not allowed to accept gifts from people...so I gotta get it picked up again. GODDAMN MEDIA MOGULS.......what do they think?...there's a bomb in it????? OH well.....I'm gonna sneak her something small and anonymous this time...I know she'll like it....but anyhoo..I'll let yunz know what happened. I tried...I mean was that appropriate of me..or not....HELP! Suggestions?? Luke

Ah that stinks that she can't keep the tree ! You did a great job though, and I am sure the thought is what counted with the gift you sent.

| Nah, it's probably an ethics policy - employees aren't supposed to accept gifts from anyone they write about so that there is no appearance of conflict of interest. Quote:I mean was that appropriate of me..or not...?? |
| It was appropriate. You didn't know their policy. And no one in their right mind would suggest that her coverage of cluster headaches was biased because you sent her a office plant after the fact. ("Bring us a shrubbery!! And make it a nice one!! We are the journalists who say NIEEEE!") But rules is rules. They don't want to create a situation where it is normal for writers and editors to recieve anything other than company pay and satisfaction at a job well done. Maybe a thank-you card from you (and/or OUCH?) would be well received.

Well, you could just walk into the place with the tree and put it on the chief editor's desk and walk out. LOL! Seriously though, that sucks a$$, but it is understandable. Maybe you could send her a nice Imitrex injector?

Luke at my work we cannot accept gifts from who we work with , but..... that being said we do accept them if they are for the office.... ie. chocolates to share, plants for the front room...just attach a card to her and say its a thank you to everyone and her for their support! That was so nice of you!

Don't be bummed Luke, you did good. It's a sad thing that there "has" to be such an ethics clause, but guess we're all the better for it. The article was indeed great, and I think you had a wonderful idea. Now, as far as what to do with the plant.........perhaps you could have it deliverd annonymously to her home, or as someone said, bring it on down to the office for everyone to share. OR you could bring it to convention and have an auction with it..........or just go ahead and return the sucker.....LOL Hope we helped you feel less bummed now?? huh??? EDNA

Want to really help her out? Send a letter to her supervisor explaing how she may have helped thousands of mis diagnosed sufferers by exposing this rotten condition. Explain to her supervisor that there are about 3000 suffers on a website that she reached out to and have our deepest gratitude. Tell him to give her a fucking raise so she can buy her own Ficus farm! Bye the way. What the fuck is a Ficus ?

I think Don's got the right idea, except maybe you can post the address and we can all send him letters. That might get some attention and even a follow up story. Good human interest story possibility here. LOL Chuck. Gator Just a thought

I'm hoping she is being super ethical but if not it fits in with the stupid shit that drives me nuts. Everybody is terrified not to follow guidelines, rules, etc. to the letter. Initiative and common sense are discouraged. Bend a rule. It's good for mental health Idiots. Charlie

| It's "No good deed goes unpunished" and you're missing the point. 3000 snail mail letters from all over the world thanking the newspaper for caring enough to even do the friggin article is bound to get attention. That is what OUCH wants, right? That's what we all want, right? A little light shined on our fuggin disease. I'd spend the 37 cents it took to send a damned thank you note. It wasn't necessarily her job to do THIS particular article. She could have ignored it or turned it down, like she's probably done with a lot of other articles. There are tons of sufferers out there wondering what the hell is wrong with them. There are sadly tons of doctors and neurologists that don't have a clue, either. A little free press definitely couldn't hurt. A joke is a joke and you are funnier than a lot of people around here, but turn down the cynicism pump for once, maybe? Sheesh! Gator

| I know. On most days I would have laughed it off or at least been able to shrug it off. I guess I was having a bad day. I suppose we are all going do that from time to time, though. I still think it might be a good idea, though. Gator
