OUCH Status ...

OUCH Members, We are now at a time where we all need to pull together for the sake and future of our organization. The remaining Board and Membership can make the necessary transitions that lie before us. This is not a crisis, but more a time to keep our focus and dedication to the goals of OUCH. For personal reasons, we have had the resignation of our President and Vice President, as well as a vacancy on the Board of Directors. We will need to fill these positions. We have among our Members many dedicated, intelligent, talented and professional people who we will be seeking support from. We suggest that we look at this as a time of opportunity, a chance to step up and be a part of helping this organization be one that represents your visions for OUCH. We are asking for volunteers as well as nominations to fill these roles. There is no question the duties of these positions will require much effort, work and sacrifice. The remaining Board Members are up to the task of holding OUCH together during this transition and will continue business for the Membership. This is your organization, we encourage input and welcome ideas. We are all in this endeavor together and there should be no doubt that working as group we can and will progress. Please let us know if you feel you can serve OUCH and your fellow Members as well as Clusterheads everywhere. The future of OUCH is not in jeopardy as we know you are out there and ready to help. We’ll await your replies and thank you for your considerations to these tasks, Sincerely, Dave Emond OUCH BoD

What are the prerequisites required to serve on the BoD or as an Officer of OUCH? Is there a minimum time that you must have been a member? DD

Good questions Donna, In the past, it was required that one be a member of OUCH for at least one year, however, it has been motioned and passed by the Board that it will now be 6 months. This will be presented in the Policies & Procedures (An accompanying document to the Bylaws.) The following are the “basic” outlines of the job descriptions for the vacancies we are seeking to fulfill: President: a) Convene regularly scheduled meetings of the Board of Directors; shall preside or arrange for other Officers or Directors to preside at each meeting. b) Have the authority to countersign all checks. c) Perform such other duties as may be requested by the Board of Directors in the interest of the business of the Organization. Vice President: a) Shall act as an aide to the President and shall assume the duties of the President in his/her absence or in the event of the vacancy in the office. b) Shall act as a chair of committees on special subjects as designated by the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors: Are responsible for overall policy and direction of the Organization, and delegates responsibility for day-to-day operations to the Organization’s officers and committees. The Board of Directors shall have no less than seven and no more than fifteen members including officers. The board receives no compensation other than reasonable expenses. Each Director shall serve for a term of two years and may be re-elected at the end of his/her term. No Board of Director member will serve more than two consecutive terms in any one office. (In this case finishing out the terms of the resigned positions, with the ability to be re-elected as well.) Now, of course this is just the basics, one should be prepared for much more work than outlined above. There are no special requirements one must have to be considered for a position other than the approval of the Board and Membership that one is capable, dedicated and ready to serve the Membership to the best of their abilities. Many in office have to learn on the job, even then we still continue to learn. Thanks for asking, we’ll try to answer all questions best we can, Dave

Please remember people, the OUCH Officers & Board of Directors only have/will consist of ONLY 11 people. Do you really think 11 people is enough to make things happen the way YOU want them to? How can OUCH help YOU guys with cluster headaches, if YOU only sit back and complain about what ISN'T being done?? I am tired of the bitching and whining, if you want something to happen and choose to open your mouth to complain, then I suggest you put your fingers to the keyboard and send off an email, PM, or post on the OUCH board, that you want to get involved. Cause I'm going to tell you right now that the only person you have to blame for not helping YOU is YOURSELF. The United States, and eventually the whole WORLD is not gonna give one rats ass or iota about YOU with CH's, unless it has more than 11 people speaking up!! Now, if the American members of THIS website, meaning those who suffer and their supporters, speak up with ONE VOICE for a legitimate organization recognized by the U.S. Government, THEN you will see something happen!!! Now please, I am NOT going to give up on you, the only thing I see happening is YOu giving up on YOURSELF. Don't do this!! Please help OUCH to grow, and I'm not just talking about only doing hands on stuff, I'm talking about registering your membership and completing surveys, etc. Something which doesn't take a lot of time to do, and don't tell me you don't have the time, because that's just a loaded excuse to not help yourself. You know, I am so SURE that there are going to be tomato throwers out there who are going to come up with a TON of reasons NOT to join, or cause "they don't believe in it and they think the BoD/Officers are all confused, and OUCH doesn't know what they're doing, etc. etc.", well, just let me say to you.... The fact that you are only willing to help other cluster sufferers (this includes YOURSELF) when the "org", beliefs or time suit you, is pathetic. It is downright harmful and closed minded. You should remember that ANY avenue to help people with cluster headaches should be looked at and put 100% into. Melissa

Yep. 11 people can't come up with a cure. There may, in fact, be no cure. Raging at OUCH and demanding a cure is the opposite of help. Yes, we're all grabbing an oar and rowing, but it doesn't do one goddamn bit of good if everyone is rowing in a different direction, or taking out their CH pain on OUCH and its officers. 11 people, with 11 different lives, with having to earn a living and raise children, in addition to being willing to serve and help people who suffer with cluster headaches. I think they deserve a round of applause and every bit of support that everyone here can garner. They are not here to be punching bags or the repository for your parcel of rage against the beast. They are here and willing to serve all of us. How about some compassion, support, and cooperation? Yes, pick up an oar and row, but let's all row in the same direction. My two centavos' worth. -Frank

Right on, Thomas. Unfortunately, many people would rather lie around in a pool of self-pity and whine about what's wrong, rather than look for ways to pick themselves up, dust themselves off, shoulder their rucksack, and get on with it. It's apparent in every strata of our society and is, in my opinion, just one more example of rampant spiritual poverty and the general decline of our nation.

Thank you, Barbara. Cut and dry: People need to STFU, take responsibility for themselves and their actions, do what they can to help themselves, and there's no such thing as a free lunch. Everything must be earned in the true coin. I don't think I would be a very popular politician. LOL
