Hello all,
Have recently been diagnosed by my GP as a CH sufferer, found your site, and just wanted to say G’day and compliment all those who have put in so much hard work in making this place so informative. I have suffered from CH’s for about 3 years now, normally getting bouts that last 15 – 30 minutes, 4 to 5 times a night and this lasts for about 1 month, before giving me a break, maybe up to 6 months. The level of pain increases over the period, normally soul destroying by the third week, then slowly decreases till they bugger off. I am at about week 2 and hating every day, knowing the worst is yet to come.

I have read a lot of info on this site about various medications, both pharmaceutical and natural. My GP prescribed a course on Predisolone, but I am concerned about the side effects and the long term usage. I rarely take any medication, not even aspirin, so I am a little concerned about Pred. Has anyone had good relief using Pred, has anyone had any side effects?

Well Hey, Yuli.

Welcome to CH.com....the home of............CH "stuff." Pred's a transition drug. You usually take it for a week or so until preventatives kick in, like verapamil, lithium, topamax, etc. Good for a quick fix, bad on the long haul.

(Notes like yours get real good answers on the Medications, Treatments, Therapies section of the board. This part of the site is pretty much reserved for whining, chicanery and cheap sex........but we're non-denomi-national.)

Are you a virgin, per chance?

Hey Mr Happy,

Cheers for the tip ( the one about the correct board to post ).

Maybe i''m better off with whining, chicanery and cheap sex than them little white pills.

As to your last question, you'll have to get to know me a little better before I answer that. The only thing gettin a banging at the moment is my head.

Gday Yuli,

Nice to see another Aussie, shame about the circumstances.

Was also prescribed "Prednisol something" and "Verapa me callit" when officialy diagnosed Jan 03, but still havent taken the script to get the "white pills". Been getting abused by these icepicks for nearly 20 years and gone without any meds, so maybe I can go another 20.

Im Just looking forward to getting over this current bump in the road.

Cheers
Steve

LMAO I like her already Hap LOL

Pred works for me Yuli, only side effect I get is that I gain 15 pounds before its over. I also do the water thing at the same time so the weight drops quickly.

PFDAN to you.

Thanks Guys for the welcome, its nice to know that some people understand and care. The normal response from the general public is " Watya whinging about, its only a bloody headache". I'm sure only CH sufferers and maybe Fur Seals understand the pain.

Hi Yuli ----------

Just wanted to welcome you here.....

Sounds like you'll fit in just fine... LOL

dont take no shit ..........LMAO!

I take prednisone - but not for clusters.  The weight gain is a small price to pay for PF time - doncha think??   The weight goes away when you're done taking it.....
and if you drink A LOT of water while you're taking it.. it helps a lot.
Just my 2 cents.

Welcome, Yuli

I took the Prednisone for 12 days.  It stopped my CH in it's tracks.  I had minimal weight gain and it was only temporary.

Like Woobie said.....PF time is great!

If you're suffering enough.....you'll try it!  Doesn't work for everyone....but certainly worth a try.

Hope you get what you need to fight the beasty one!

PF vibes,

Jean
