Transient Participation

Hello all,
I found this site in January 2003. Having suffered from CH’s for nearly 20 years and never seeking medical advise, it was a joy to discover, that their was a medical term to describe what I was going through. All of this info I aquired through your site, not only did I find most of the facts, I also discovered this forum which to me, helped me through one of my most severe bouts of attack. The help came from advise, support and a lot of humour. To participate in the forum, I believe, was integral in getting me through that cycle.
I have been PF for about 15 months, little ripper, but it seems that the beast is back for another crack at the title.
My question to the forum regulars, the ones who participate all year round, whether you are in our out of cycle is the following:
Am I overstaying my welcome by only fronting up when I am in need of the forum and then disappearing when all returns to the norm? When my CH’s end, I try to forget that they ever existed and this is probably why I don’t visit this site. If my transient participation offends those who put so much into this site, I will gladly hide under a rock for this duration.

Sorry to hear the Beast is knocking on the door once again after what must have seemed like wedded bliss. My own cycle(s) provide me about 13 months of regrouping, and a chance to live without the horrors of our affliction.
I was lucky to find this wonderful family in Jan of this year. The info garnered from these pages helped me to not only put a name to my torture, but pointed me in the direction of a med that has worked…..Topomax.
The support, caring, understanding of our brothers and sisters got me through the worst of times, and today, provides me with an outlet to vent, rant, laugh, cry, and stay in touch with some very near and dear friends.
I have heard [read] it said by those that came before me……take what you want/need and leave the rest. I for one, feel that holds true for ‘participation’ as well. Even though, as a support site, we should try to remain active in our times of PF to support those so less fortunate and hurting, a break may be necessary to simply maintain ones sanity.
I myself, have gone from being ‘logged in’ almost 24/7, to taking days, or at least major blocks of hours to enjoy my PF time, take care of my business, my lovely wife, and spend some time taking in the sights and sounds of nature on my moto-sicle.
I have noticed, with the advent of spring, some logins I hadn’t seen back in Jan/Feb/Mar. This leads me to believe that there may be many who ‘work it’ as you prefer. All of you have my vote, to participate as you see fit.
Peace brother, and I hope and pray that the demons visit may be short-lived for you this time around.

Glad to see you post again. Sorry that the beast has knocked once again on your door causing you to seek the support you need.
As for not being here when out of cycle. I can certainly understand the desire to forget about anything to do with the beast, if you can. For me, the knowledge that the SOB will show up again is always in the back of my mind. I get an eye twinge while out of cycle and it scares the crap out of me, even when it turns out to be nothing. I personally think the MB needs to have input from members who are out of cycle and months pain free, it gives the rest of us hope.

All I can say is, How depressing would this place be, if all of the pf people went away, and all the posting that was being done was by depressed, hurting, sleep deprived, scared people?

Hey Aussie...alot of us here whether in or out of cycle. I personally don't miss a day on here....and I'm out of cycle...I might not post but I'm here. I mean where else can you meet a bunch of goof-balls at without having to leave your home. I wouldn't trade this bunch in for gold now.

I haven't been here all that long, but as far as I'm concerned it's basically to each his own. You do what you are comfortable with. I haven't had this long enough to call me chronic, but I haven't been pain free for more than about 2 weeks (and that was only once in January) since getting hit in Nov 2003. I can't say for sure what I ould do if I woke up pain free one day. I would like to think I would stick around for the newcomers and to yak with my new family.
We'll see.

I too am like that. When I'm in cycle this site is my life always looking for something new to try. I signed up a couple of years ago and don't post much. When I go out of cycle it seems like I have to catch up on things in my life. When I'm in cycle there is only one thing that's important, seeking pfdan. A month or two ago I came back and started reading posts and wundered why I left. I really don't feel comfotable posting and it seems the only time I do is when I need help (many here offer it and god bless them). So I think I'll stick around and see what's up daily if I can. Maybe I'll open up I don't know. I'll might feel better if Jonny flames me. LOL

Personally, I would hate to think that someone is suffering.....and not posting because of their absence on the board.
I am currently PF.....but I choose to stay during this time because I have met several of these sufferers and supporters. During my time of sheer desperation, these folks came to my rescue.....helped me thru the bad times. So many here are chronic. They suffer every day,
with very little relief. PF time is a dream for them. I find that those of us that are episodic and have lots of PF time are welcomed by those that suffer on a daily basis. I doubt that any thing I say, makes them feel much better, and certainly I can't take the CH from them. However, just the presence of others and the understanding of the pain means alot to those who have no PF time.
This is just my personal preference to stay and try to help.
It's not a rule....just a preference.
Your presence here is certainly not offensive to me.
Sorry to hear that the beast has decided to invade your space again. Hope you have what you need to fight the battle.

Welcome back, but sorry you are here.  I'm with Jean, that no one should stay away from here when it is needed. While we would like your participation while PF, I thouroughly understand you wanting no reminders. When you get to meet some of the others here in person it changes your perspective on a lot of things, and I for one hate to miss a day being involved. I don't post a lot of times, but I find who is hurting particularly badly and try to pray for them. Whatever you feel you can do, do, and leave it at that with no self recriminations. IMHO

This is my fourth cycle since finding this board and previously left whenever I got PF. This time I want to see if I'm capable of doing any good while PF.
My problem had been once the cycle ends, I tended to forget the really bad times when I needed this board, I had found it hard to relate on the same level as when I was in cycle.
So many people here though have my respect for what they do for each other and support and give. I am going to stay to see if some of it can rub off on me. I need to learn some of the character people here have shown.
Aussie, you are not overstaying your welcome if you are in cycle. People here have helped and understood me while in cycle. If the board will take me in like they have while in cycle when I have constantly left, you certainly are not overstaying or anything the board has not seen before. Lean, the heart and shoulders here are really big. You might find yourself staying one day soon. I'm slow, it took me four cycles to want to learn what these people have shown me. You're in the right place.
