Anyone here from Michigan?

Kiss your property goodbye as the state ushers in communism: Now let me tell you wnat they did in Michigan, and once again the moving force behind this rape of private property rights was a Republican. Republican State Rep. Andrew Richner introduced a bill that allowed local government acting in "the public interest" to condemn private property and hand it over to developers. In Michigan, unlike the Florida bill, the local government would have to declare the property "blighted" before it can be condemned. But the legislation was written in such a way that the property owner has virtually no way to challenge the designation. In one way the Michigan bill, which was made law in 2002, was much worse than the the proposed Florida law. In Michigan the property could be seized from the private owner and just given ... not sold, but given to a developer. The rightful owner of the property then gets "just compensation" for his loss. "Just," as defined by government. disgusting--get that SOB out of office

Unfortunately, the problem you speak of has no political affiliation, except that it's politians doing the taking. It's called greed and it is happening all over the country regardless of the majority parties lean. The money grubbing politicians are taking property from land owners and selling it to the highest bidder, because the new owner will build something that will result in more tax income for the local government. A couple of the businesses involved recently are WalMart and CostCo. They try to buy property from a land owner to build a new store and when the owner refuses to sell, they walk in to a government officials office and say they want to build a new store which will result in more taxes for the town. Then they tell the politician that all they have to do is play the "Eminent Domain" card and they can take the land. Politicians are jumping on the Eminent Domain bandwagon all over the country. Eminent Domain is supposed to only be used when it is necessary for the public good (like for roads, utility right of ways, etc) NOT for businesses to come in and increase the tax base of a town. Listen to Neal Boortz, an AM radio talk show host. He is not Republican or Democrat, but Libertarian. He frequently does stories related to our rights to be secure in the ownership of property and the abuses to that right by local and state governments. Gator

It happens here in NC too..... Listen to Bortz? While I sure don't agree with some of his thoughts, he damn sure makes you think outside the box. Something that they used to teach in school....it's a shame when you have to get that from a radio talk show. Bill <who is a Librepublicrat, I don't fit in a political classification>

| It's true, he can be a heartless son of a bitch at times, but I love listening to him. He's all about the constitution and limited government, personal freedom AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. Which is something you can't get from ABC, NBC, CBS or CNN. I love how he shoots down the ultra-liberals when they try to spew that ooey gooey, politically correct, feelings first, save the planet crap. Gator

To borrow a phrase 'dittos' on Boortz working to effect change toward limited gov't as described in the Constitution. Good luck having government schools teach about rights: An informed citizen is a bad citizen. Let's dumb 'em down.
