I was watching the Health Ch  and a lady injured her back, when they called 911 and the para meds got there they hooked her up to a small d tank of the happy mixture. The patients pain was immediately gone and they went on there merry way. This is what we need for sure to abort our CH attacks (remember Im New!) I dont know if I could go to my Dentist but then again I havent been in ...in a while.
Painfree to Everyone!

Interesting Markie. Thanks.  Yeah Luke, some drug co. would jump on it,  charge outrageous prices  and the med community would turn up their collective  noses.

I can see the NO2 working.  The mix would most certainly work not only to abort for those who use O2 but the Nitrous added would aslo serve to reduce if not eliminate the anxiety and BP increase while the O2 takes effect.  At least that would seem logical.

well, nitrous is a potent anaesthetic.  I don't know if the headache would abort or if the pain would just be blocked while breathing the nitrous.  Nitrous wears off quickly (most is gone in a minute or so).

I came across some stuff on "Entonox" which is 50% nitrous oxide with 50% oxygen.  Because it is premixed in the cylinder, it does not require a complicated regulator.  Entonox seems to be used in childbirthing and by paramedics. I don't know if they hand this stuff out for patients to take home.

Came across this story about someone using nitrous to abort a cluster headache.  It is anonymous and I can't vouch for its accuracy, but it is interesting.

Quote:
I'm a high school student who suffers from rather severe cluster headaches, and I found that nitrous oxide is a very effective abortive when oxygen is not available. Because of issues with both my primary care physician and my medical insurance provider, I was unable to obtain any of the mainstream cluster headache treatments such as oxygen or triptans. While my original interest in nitrous oxide was admittedly recreational, I soon discovered that it was also a cranial vasodilator. After researching the matter quite a bit more extensively, I decided to try it out on myself. After inhaling a single 8g canister of compressed nitrous oxide, the anesthetic properties of the nitrous oxide would numb the headache right away, and the residual vasodilator properties would allow for an increased amount of oxygen-rich intracranial blood flow once I began to inhale normal air once again. That oxygen effectively aborted my cluster attack, and while I often had a low, dull headache afterwards, it was a MUCH better alternative than a cluster attack.

The kid who wrote that got busted at school, suspended, and arrested.  State laws on nitrous vary; it is not legal to use it as an inhalent in most parts of the US, although in many places it is only a misdemeanor:

Nitrous is addicting, and can cause nerve damage with prolonged use.  If oxygen works, that makes more sense to me than nitrous.

PLEASE DON'T MESS AROUND WITH NITROUS

If used at the wrong saturation rate it can cause all types of problems. We no longer use it in our office, it has been stated that nitrous wears off quickly once you breath pure O2 and it does in most cases but not in all. It is also know to cause miscarriges, and a host of other problems ranging any were from throwing up, to brain damage and even death.  I have had a few pt.s tell me it gave them a HA.

So if you are going to try this make sure it is done in a Dr.s office and  not at home, if you think you can have problems from falling a sleep with your O2 mask on you haven seen problems but then again you won't you will be dead.

Back in 1981, I helped open a computer business in Eureka, Ca.  One of the original partners was very fond of his tank of Nitrous.  We all had great fun with it.  That was until the Monday morning we found him dead from asphyxiation.  He had been enjoying a few huffs from the tank, and left it on.  The small office space filled with Nitrous, displaced all the air, and he died quite happy.
