(just for giggles) Source: JOE HENDERSON The Kansas City Stars Midget Major AA hockey team closed out its most successful season ever by taking third place in the USA Hockey National Championship tournament last week. The Stars lost 5-0 to the Detroit Eastside Falcons, the eventual national champion, in the semifinals April 3.Interestingly, they defeated the same Detroit team 4-1 on their way to winning the Silver Stick tournament in January in Sarnia, Ontario. Published on April 10, 2004, Page 13, Kansas City Star, The (MO) Source: JOE HENDERSON The Kansas City Stars winning the North American Silver Stick championship recently in Sarnia, Ontario, was, by any standard, huge."There's no doubt it was the greatest accomplishment in Kansas City youth hockey history,'' said Stars coach Pat Ferschweiler........... Published on January 31, 2004, Page 26, Kansas City Star, The (MO) Not bad for a Kansas Team aye Margi??

anyone who beats any Detroit hockey team even ONCE is a-one in my books! Midget Major AA? How old are these kids, Echo? Are they the really little guys? They're so cute. They're all helmets and skates with a blob of padding in between. LOL

| The little guy - mites - are like herd hockey. 10 kids in 15 foot diameter circle. I really get a kick out of watching or refereeing their games. The parents are the PITA.

| I had two little buggers wipe out behind me while skating backwards. Natually they took me out and I landed on one. I was able to turn around and catch myself but he was beneath me. I scared him, he cryied, wasn't injured, but I thought I was going to have to defend myself when his mother decided to scale the plexiglass and head out on the ice screaming obsenities at me. Yep -- I had her ass removed from the building, either that or forfeit the game her team was winning. God I love this game. I may be nearing 50 but I can still out skate, out shoot and out stick handle men half my age. I'll give the lung capacity to them however. Three hard minutes and I need water and a break.

LOL ya big meanie, Echo. Landing on little kids. Sheesh! Bet they send you their psychiastrist bills in later life. Got a laugh at lunch today - driving by McDonalds and a group of high schoolers are there in the parking lot with their Flames jerseys on, girls holding cardboard signs saying 'honk if you love the Flames'. Honk Honk HONK (to the rhythm of Go Flames Go) - it was pretty cool. (Yes, of COURSE, I honked too.) The boys were playing ball hockey on the lawn and they were also in red/white. I think that's what so cool about Flames fever is that our young people are SO into it.

| Play SMART, not hard! A buddy of mine is 48 and is 15 yrs older than the next oldest guy on his team. There's no way that he can keep up but is always near the top of the scoring. Sneak in, kinda hide at the edge of the crease... I feel sorry for anyone that didn`t grow up playing and watching the game whenever possible. grant

Whao Margi------ Kinda tough on Detroit fans ain't cha'. What cha got against the Wings? We lost, ya don't hear me spoutin' off against your Flames........ I'm bummed as hell my Wings are out of it. But hey, I just accept that fact Kiprasoff was on his game. Not very often the Wings get shut out 2 games in a row, not to mention doing it in the playoffs!! I would say good luck to your Flames...but NOT AFTER YOUR COMMENT!!! GO WINGS IN 05'

| Margi Can I answer that? When the "dead-things" go out and spend $25 million on free agents and other teams have a total payroll of $26 million (Calgary), it shows a little financial disparity in the league. I LOVE to see teams like the Wings and the Rangers underachieve with their MASSIVE payrolls. Its GREAT to see a small-market team with a very limited payroll knock 'em out! (or in the Ranger's case - not even make the playoffs!!!!!) on May 5th, 2004, 2:54am, wingnut04 wrote:...I would say good luck to your Flames...but NOT AFTER YOUR COMMENT!!! GO WINGS IN 05' |
| The Flames are one of the youngest teams in the league and the majority of the talent is from the draft. Players that have been there since the start of their careers. The dead-things are headed into a rebuilding process. Hopefully that can't buy their way out of an aging roster. Think yer gonna have to wait a little longer than next year. (and that's IF there is hockey next year! ) GO FLAMES GO!!!!! grant

Sorry, Wingnut - you're right. That was shitty of me to say it like that. You have to understand that our Flames haven't been in the playoffs for a WEALLY long time here and we're all on a big high here right now. Just the adrenaline rush of the win the night before I guess. That, and being Canadian, it's real nice to see Canadian teams in the playoffs against the big dogs. I do agree with Grant though - these salaries and rock star hockey players are killing the spirit of the game. It's very refreshing to see a "Cindarella" team kick the wealthy step-mother in the shins every now and then. Know what I mean? It truly was nothing personal. It was a really great series, some of the best hockey I've ever seen - your Wings definitely kept our Flames hot, that's for sure! My apologies for being one of those winners who goes 'nyah, nyah, nyah'. But, damn it felt good to beat Detroit!! (consider that a compliment, Wingnut, ok?)

Hey Echo, Cool topic... Grant and yourself are right. It is possible to still play good hockey as you get a little, euhhh let's say, older. Guys that have a feel for the game can be extremely good without having to be the fastest and the most enduring. My company plays a game every year at the Bell Center (home of the Montreal Canadiens) and I was also lucky to play a few times at the old Forum. Man, what a great feeling! Anyway, I know guys in their sixties who still play twice a week and can still teach the twenty-something guy lots of tricks. It is just a great sport. One question: Based in Kansas, what would be your favorite NHL team? Here in MTL, the Habs gave us a lot of hope after defeating Jonny's boys (the Big Bad Boston Bruins) after trailing 1-3 in the first-round serie but they collapsed against Tampa Bay. Oh well... there's always next year... if there is a next year. That lock-out doesn't look good. miCHel, long-time Habs fan
