Alive and ... well alive. It's been a rather long and umm absolutely miserable month or more now. Apparently I stood alot closer to the edge of deaths door than anyone cared to inform me of until just recently. This all started March 24th when a migraine style headache that hurt in all the cluster places started and I couldn't break. That headache lead me down a path to death. Unknowingly, and in an effort to help, the docs put me on methadone. Some of you will remember me being grounded. I suffered recurrent vomiting and was in very bad shape - dehydrated etc. etc. What we didn't know at that time, was that I was also being poisoned. What we know now, is that the allergic reaction I had to the methadone, (which by the way, has a cumulative effect in your body, and has a half life anywhere from 22 to 150 hours, and I was to take it every 4 hours), was the equivalent to arsenic poisoning (low level). What we also didn't know is that even after I was off all those drugs - the narcotics, had been to New England and had a plan and hope for my clusters, my body was slowly shutting itself down. On that Wed. evening when Clark took me to the emergency room I was frustrated to be back in an ER vomiting and knowing I would just get the IV fluids a pat on the head and sent home. That was when I found out that my small intestine and bowels were paralized. Welcome to the world of methadone. I have been battling nausea and vomiting daily since the first of April, and have been, or so I've been told to edge of deaths door my body was so toxic. In all honesty, I can tell you here and now, give me clusters any day, those won't kill me, I know what to expect, they don't have delayed reactions, they have a set pattern (for most) and it's only pain. Pain and life vs. pain and death. I wish I could tell you all I am being melodramatic, but if anything I'm playing this down a bit. I'll be absent or low key for awhile as my body attempts to heal and recover, but I want to thank all who sent well wishes, they helped more than you know. Some days they were the only smiles that I had - the ones you made for me. Luv to all Cat

Man how much methadone where you taking? Sounds like the drs didn't know what they were doing, every 4 hours? That is rediculous. I was told of its life and told to take it 12 hours apart. I only took 10mg am and 10mg pm very low dose and it did wonders for my head. So sorry you went through that hell. Glad your getting better!

Karla, yes I was given 10mg, with instructions on the bottle that said take one tablet every 4 hours for pain. As it was, I split the pills in half and was not taking it every 4 hours because I told Hap and others what it was and they said that's nuts, you don't take it that way. I'm not sure that things would have been that different regardless, it wouldn't have gotten as dangerous perhaps, but there was a definite allergic reaction, sunburn like rash, recurrent vomiting etc. It's a very good pain control drug, but like any medication, make sure you know what to look for allergic reactions - I seem to like all the rare side effects. It did break the headaches, but at a very high cost. I wish I would have come here and asked more questions about the drug, maybe I wouldn't have taken it for 10 days - 4 hours apart. Actually, I didn't always take it that way because I was throwing up too much. I'm lucky to be here folks, research your meds, my primary care doc is a great doc - for general family practice. I'll stick with the experts for my head. Cat

Cat, Glad to hear you're back among the living, the Zombie state doesn't suit you well. I guess your tag line "If yer gonna be stupid, ya gotta be tough" should give you something to think about. I guess the moral of the story is, don't mix meds, don't take meds without your doctor's approval and then once you get approval, do your own research. The first two don't apply in your situation, but are a valid reminder nonetheless. Ozzy

Wow, Cat!! Welcome back! I'm so glad you're back and on the mend. It would be interesting to hear what your physician has to say for himself. Anyway, welcome back from your season in Hell.

Thanks for writing Cat, good to hear from you and that things are finally beginning to look up. Your situation sounded so seriously bad. So glad you got through that terrible time. Yes, as Leesa said, we need you here. Get strong again and stay with us. That was too close to the edge. Kevin M

"edge" did someone say edge? In New York....Cat gets hit. Doesn't tell anyone. Off into the wooded forest she goes. She comes back and as she is in focus now I see her hair is wet(no, I mean soaking wet) Looks like she went through....well you all know. Later on, come to find out she was a swimmer in a former life. No thought at all in her mind that during an attack she shouldn't just jump in the fuck-in river. I am sure certain that if it had known that CAt WOULD BE DROPPING IN SO TO SPEAK.... it would have stopped it's flow for her. If the rest of, who love you could....we'd stop your flow til you got better my friend. Linda
