12 years finding solutions

I have been suffering from cluster headaches for over 12 years. The pain is on the left side behind my eye and on the top left side of my temple, and the lower part of my nick left side. I am literaly on my feet in seconds as it attacks. I take two liquid advils, and place my head under extremely cold water to the point where I have to deal with the pain of a frozen skull and a frozen eye pupil and repeat over and over again. I start jumping up and down fast to incrrease the circulation of the blood in order to speed the pills speed to distination, and unclog my left nostral. I also make a hot cup of coffee to further speed my heart rate for the circulation of the blood to speed the delivery of my weak but only hope advil or tylenol. I now have the system down pact. In the occasion ( mostly) when its so sever, I would use the tip of my fingers in a strong rythem beating on the skull as we do on a desk top creating sounds. Yet i go hard cause several beatings ( drumming with the tips of the fingers ) eventually nums the skull and reduces the pain.  I refused to take a medicine prescribed diagnosed by one of the top neurologist in the country out of fear of side effects. I am extremely touched to find this site, and a tear almost came to my eye knowing that others understand and the similarity is incredible. I tell you, this pain washes all sins friends. Every hit and specially the night ones are powerfull and overwhelming. Simply cause I awake in at the end of the first stage ( pain developement ) which makes having the over the counter pain killers reach the pained area around the end or middle of the second stage of pain ( I call it the peak ) and the decend is still as painfull with the repetitive clearing and rising again until its gone. What afeeling when its gone but only to revisit in a couple of hours. I also found that weight training, staying away from cheese, and any vitamine C based juice helps reduces the frequency and the severity of the attacks. Standing up as will is far more healing than sitting down during the attack although its difficult cause the energy is sucked right out. I hope some of my techniques may help you. I feel your pain. I live with it.

Welcome... Sorry to hear that you've had to join us...

I too have used different "homemade" techniques as I went 18 yrs without any effective treatment options, especially accuressure.

But...
Dude, you really need to check out oxygen!
If you want to tough it out "au natural" because of whatever reason, that's your choice... But I'm here to tell you imitrex is a wonder drug... But if you don't want to go that route, you owe it to yourself to get a tank of O2! Last I heard it has no side effects, except for killing ch. Wink

Wolf,
I think you just described my morning ritual, except I use O2, Coffee and 3 Excedrin extra strength (have to be careful with them cause they can cause a rebound - I take them only when I wake with a 5 or above).

Try not to take the Cafergot unless I hit an 8 or 9 and then I'll take anything to stop the damn pain.

sometimes alternating between cold and hot water helps - sometimes it doesn't.

You might also try a headband. I've been using that for years.

Sorry you're getting hit, but glad you found us.

Welcome and sorry you have had to deal with this horror but I'm glad you have had some success.  Here is a link to my circulatory technique that is also non-invasive. You may be one who can use it well.

Good luck and let us know how you're getting along.
