Cease fire in Iraq? not ch

I'm getting a bit confused. We have now extended the so called cease fire at Fallujah again. How many is it now? I've lost track. Why is it our guys are the ones observing this bullshit while the radicals are taking this time to re-arm with no intention to disarm ? We should give the non-combatants 24 hours to evacuate and then flatten the damned place, mosques and all. Let our guys go in and do the job they were trained to do instead of being targets for the nutsos tthat don't really give a rats ass for life, their's or any one elses. Are we so damned afraid of offending our so called arab friends now that we're willing to sacrafice our troops to fanatics that think nothing of killing and mutilating others? Are we now begining to bog down in the mire of politics to show the rest of the world how great we are? God, I hope not.

Not at all. We'd be alive and they'd be DEAD. Very different. Sounds reasonable to me.

Read all the crap I could stand.

Armchair generals rattling sabres for the good corporate oil barons...while Iraqi civilians and brave innocent American youth die. Fucking disgraceful. Without any shred of grace.

It's not the fact that it's not winable...worse...we are creating a whole new breed of terrorist. They have been watching their mothers and children die at our hands. A catchy sales technique for Democracy and Christianity.

Bomb their mosques? Squeeze yer orange juice, cuss the gas prices and take comfort in the fact that there are hundreds of channels not showing our children dying.

Bring our children home and put the oil barons on trial for genocide and war crimes.

Didn't seem to bother them enough to do anything about it, watching their mothers and children die at the hand of Saddam. Didn't see much terrorist activity against Iraq.

Historically, Iraq is the result of wishful thinking by Britain and others more than 80 years ago. I learned that England lost well more than 1,000 men trying the same thing in the 20s and it was startlingly like what we're doing now. England knows how expensive on so many levels, it is to police an empire.

Since what resides in the White House now calls WMDs: "Related program activities and a significant amount of equipment," we're stuck. I hate to say it but these fighters in Fallujah are not interested in negotiating. Den is right that even bin Laden & Co. couldn't afford the free recruiting we've done for him. It's costly paying attention to only our own history.

"Iraq is just like a sign in the Pottery Barn. If you break it, you've bought it." We sure have and there will be a lot more blood under the bridge.

The 'cease-fire' may have just been an opportunity to reposition US forces, conduct reconnaissance, and run-down the resources (food, sleep, etc) of  the insurgents. And it wasn't really a cease fire - both sides were engaging in some activity through the whole thing. It may reflect a disagreement on strategy between various groups in the US military and CPA, although it seems that a course has been decided on.  I don't see it as an intentional sacrifice of our troops.

But in response to Bob_Kips question "Are we now begining to bog down in the mire of politics ... ?" - well, yes, we have occupied a country and now must do the Iraqi political dance.  No way around that.

Actually, there were several uprisings against Saddam.  The most famous was conducted by the Marsh Arabs in the south of Iraq after the first Gulf War.  The first Bush encourage the uprising and promised support.  Suport never came and that uprising was crushed.  400,000 people were displaced when Saddam drained the marshes. Maybe 100,000 people died in the fighting.

I can't imagine it either. For some it's all they've known.

Every now and then it strikes me that even with the horror of clusters, we are well-fed and comfortable enough to come here and complain.

Life is still pretty good....for us.

No more cease fire...now.

They were probably waiting on more intelligence as to where the enemy was holed up. To search & destroy the enemy is a soldier's way...to indiscriminately blow away anything that is there is not.

We tried that..... it didn't work.  Hey!  Why don't we just send everyone home and disarm all of our strategic and tactical forces.  And then we can throw flowers at them and ask them to please stop and then kill them with love and kindness.  Grin Crawl back into your fantasyland

Historically speaking, it's been a long journey and so.....here we are.  It began long b4 England was England.....

how it's going to end ....hmmmm...dunno.  i keep reading and i keep looking both behind and ahead.  tough cawl.  Answers are hard to come by - we'll most likely be bickering when "the final answer" is delivered.
