South Beach Diet Trigger?

Has anyone else experienced this? I rencenlty started cluster episodes after being ch free for more than 3 years. I recently went on the South Beach Diet. If you haven't heard about it, it is a very low carb diet. And of course, peanuts are allowed. I cannot think of another trigger on the diet except maybe, giving up regular sodas for equal sweeted fresh lemonade I have lost so much weight I do not want to come off the diet. Even the 2 pounds I put on with the prednisone (didn't work) came off as soon as I stopped. Anyone else had the same experience about 2 months after going on the diet?

Sorry - I dont have time to diet. I eat when I think about it and whatever is handy.

maokitty I really, really doubt it. I've been on low-carb diets and stayed totally pain free, and very few clusterheads have food triggers. Others may disagree but that is my experience Wendy

Nope. MSG is a potent trigger for me but I think I'm totally alone there. The damned beast attacks in so many ways. Kip

I have never done South Beach Diet...But I can tell you that I got the worst cycle ever when I started the Slim-Fast plan a cpl years ago. I dont know if it triggered it, but I wasn't due for a cycle and as soon as I stopped the Slim-Fast.. the cycle stopped....just seemed weird. Best of luck to you Shari

I have read a few other posts here where losing weight led to an increase in cluster activity - don't know if that is specific to low carb diets or not. There are a lot of biochemical changes that occur when losing weight - hormones like leptin, cortisol, etc. Did a quick search of the archives, and there were posts all over the place - dieting helped, dieting didn't help, dieting made it worse. Wish I knew. Well, I've lost 15 pounds in the last few months on a somewhat low carb diet - triglycerides better, cholesterol unchanged. We'll see how my head aches this summer. If anything, I am willing to bet I will be better this year - fructose intolerance lowers tryptophan and serotonin, and I limit my fructose now that I know this is a problem for me.

Sorry for the return of this horror. Others have had long periods PF before. You aren't alone. I lost about 60 pounds in 1964 by being careful of carbs. I would never eliminate them. Not a good idea. It's easy to lose weight when you're 18 though. So many things work better. My CH did not begin until I was 23 in 1969. Good luck with the diet and my guess is that it's not a major factor in the beast's return. Charlie
