I have just had a message form the trustees of OUCH UK. I now have to pay to post a message? For some reason people (Flash?) have offended certain trustees with their talk of illegall substances, therefore we now have a highly censored message board. I never thought I would say this, but enough is enough, I am still appreciative of the help guidance and support I received from all members of OUCH UK when I was diagnosed with CH. However, freedom of speech is paramount to me, so as of now my annual fees will be donated to OUCH (US) I am sorry to have to post this, but, I am not allowed to post it on the UK site. If this offends anyone from the UK, tough shit, and if you want a war of words, you can have one. Sincerely SteveY

Steve, Agree with everything you said except blaming Flash. He claims he hasn't been to OUCH (UK) in months. -Fu

Yes it is a sad thing. Its also sad that people or a group get publicly accused of such a terrible thing. If one or two arguments on a message board board became proof that someone turned into a hacker, there must be 4000 people out there that are trying to hack this message board. ;-( If it's someone smart enough to use a remailer, they are also probably smart enough to use someone else to hide behind so fingers are pointed in the wrong direction. Whatever the goals of the perpetrator, whomever the true intended victim may be, it is wrong and in the end, many people will be harmed. Sad indeed PF

Because of it, OUCH-UK is now moving their MB to a paid members only area for security reasons. The person who did it din't have the balls to use their own name. They logged in as our past Pres. Don to make their posts, some personal attacks on MOB and his wife. |

People will have the option of having full membership for £10 , but they will still be able to go onto the website, ask questions, have them answered rapidly by people who have in depth knowledge of their condition and also talk on the phone to those same knowledgeable people if they prefer that or are not online. They will ALL have access to the wealth of really great information there is there. All we are doing is preventing people coming onto the site and onto the message board at random, pretending to be other people and posting obscene, vile and incredibly upsetting things about others and trying to take the site down at the same time. We didn't draw attention to it, because that usually just fans the flames. Hints of the same modus operandi were there, but our attack was not as brutal as that aimed at UK. MOB and I have compared notes, webmaster to webmaster, and although we were able to get IP numbers, it is impossible to point fingers because of the anonymity of the internet. I may be outta the loop here, but I hadn't heard that these attacks were shroom driven/related and I think folks are better off not assuming that that is the hidden agenda here. Preying on people in pain is a sad thing to do and we've all had to take measures to tighten up security as a result. Let's not start things up all over again, ok? Our webmasters for the various OUCH sites are at the helm here and keeping things under control. Let's let them do their jobs, ok? |

Dear Members/Users Due to the heightened threat to the security of this message board, it is with some reluctance that a decision has been made to bring forward the implementation of a member’s only message board accessible to fully paid up members of OUCH (UK) only. Whilst not wanting to exclude any sufferer from availing themselves of all the help that OUCH (UK) prides itself in offering, we must protect the integrity of our organisation and our member’s security. The issue here is not just one of abusive posts, upsetting as that is, it is the fact that anyone can sign up to the message board and once inside can freely make postings and we cannot verify their true identity. By implementing a member’s only board we would then hold details of anyone who signs up such as address, banking details etc., as we do now with our members. No system is 100% secure but the measures we are implementing would afford a very high degree of security barring all but bone fide persons. The automatic registering procedure presently in place will cease and everyone will be registered manually by the admin team. Ouch (UK) would never knowingly disadvantage any person who is genuinely seeking the help and advice we can provide; we all know too well what it means to find that ‘outstretched arm’. Everyone will have full access to the main Ouch (UK) site and all the information that is contained within it. Additionally, Ouch (UK) members will have full access to the Message Board whilst non members and visitors will be directed to a new, dedicated board where help and advice can be sought. This will be monitored on a regular basis throughout the day/evening by trustees and officers who will assist visitors by answering their enquiries on a needs basis. This will ensure that any requests are processed with minimum delay and, in most cases, a response generated even quicker than from the overstretched helpline volunteers. We see this as an enhanced service to sufferers and supporters by offering a more focused approach to their particular needs combined with a far more secure environment ! to both members and visitors alike. We have also been investigating a means of providing some form of on-line payment facility which, amongst other things, will provide a means of gaining instant membership and subscription renewal etc., and this should be in place before too long. No doubt there will be teething problems and I ask all of you to bear with us whilst these changes are implemented. If you find yourself in difficulties just contact us Here and we will endeavour to sort out any problems you may have with the minimum of delay. This is not just a reactive move to recent events, it is something that has been discussed for some months by the Trustees in our quest to provide a more efficient and effective service to all who suffer from the impact that CH has on their lives. To give board members a chance to review their status, renew subscriptions etc. The above changes will be implemented from Sunday 18th April 2004 unless extraneous events overtake us Les Charlton On behalf of the Trustees

I think that if someone is too chickenshit to say who they are, they shouldn't have the privilage of using the organization's web site. I don't think of it as controlling by the owner but more responsiblity on the poster's part. Lot's of people want to mouth off in anonimity. Guess they don't have the courage of thier convictions.

| Steve I'm not looking for a war of words, but you are twisting the facts. This is nothing to do with Flash (or do you know something we don't?) The reason the message board is being restructured is that a sick individual has hacked the site and is using member's log -ons to post vile, obscene and utterly disgusting messages on the board. oops, maybe I got it wrong then. I did not know of the abusive posts, so apologies for that. However the fact remains the board is too highly censored, it has become more of a one way instruction board than a message board. My view, i don't expect you all to agree with me. Steve
