Any sugestions - night anxiety?

OK Clusterville, I need advise.  I am really realizing just how much I am wearing myself down right now.  I am dragging all day long and even fell asleep on the road. (Luckly it was at a light, but still not a good thing)
 
I am exhausted.  I get the kids down and decide to go to bed. As soon as I lay down, I am wide awake. My heart is pounding, and all I can think about is the HA that is waiting for me.  So I get up. I watch TV, I read, I get on the Computer. Anything to stay away. About 1am or so, I literally find myself falling sleep where ever I am, so I drag myself to beg, to be woken up at 3am by the beast. Then I am up until about 5, crash again and get up at 6 when the alarm goes off.  
 
I cant take stuff to make me sleep, I have a 20 month old and need to be concious enough to hear him if he starts fussing.  
 
I am tired of this catch 22 I am in and I am hoping that maybe some of you have some suggestions.

Try some melatonin. It really worked for me. And it doesn't make you feel "drugged" like sleeping pills or anything like that...

Ok Tia, I am going to be blunt with you.  You have to STOP being afraid of going to sleep, because the more you let clusters scare you, the more they are going to take control of your life.  You need to expect to get hit, no matter if your sleeping or not.  This is so important, because you NEED your sleep, as much of it as you can get.  I learned this when I went into cycle 2 & 1/2 weeks after having my baby last year.  How was I supposed to care for him, if I was sleep deprived?  I did my duty as a mother, and went to bed full knowing I'd end up waking with a cluster.  I made sure my trex injections or nasal sprays were within reach when I did wake with the beast.  If I didn't have meds, I would have made sure the coffee pot was ready to go and the ice packs nice and ice cold, before I'd go to bed.
 
Tia, you have to take care of yourself.  Don't let the fucker run your life, make sure it knows who's boss!!!

You know Mel. Logically I know that. But the past week it has been insane. I feel like I am going crazy.  
 
If nothing else I am hopeing that my saying it here it will help.  I cant talk about it with my hubby. Ask Super about that. My husband has a very scewed view of clusters. to say the least.

A combination of anti-depressants and Xanax keeps me anxiety free most nights. Of course it takes some getting used to ( a coupla weeks) before the sleepyness effects become minimal enough to enable me to wake up intermediately. Melatonin is a good shot too, even though I don't use or need it right now.

Meletonin did not do much for me when I tried it A few months ago.  But I have started takeing some Valerion Root, as it also helps with sleep and tension. So maybe if I try it with Meletonin it will help.  
 
It never bothered me before. It has just been the last 10 days or so and it seems to be getting worse.  I need to stop it now before I completly lose it.  My nerves are shot and I know that it is effecting me in other ways because I get upset really easy and that is just not me.  To many people have refered to me as an ice queen over the years.  SO I am not exactly emotionally open, normally.
 
Thanks guys to letting me lose it here. At least here there is a safe zone, that others understand.

Haven't tried it myself 'cos we don't have it here, but lots of people have posted about finding Dramamine helps buy a good night's sleep.
 
Also, girly thought here, sleeping smoothes out wrinkles, that's why it's beauty sleep!
So instead of being frightened of sleep, think of it as a  healing time and accept that you will be woken up, deal with the pain, then get back to those skin smoothing dreams.

Same way Tia...dont wanna go to sleep...ya know whats gonna come. So ya know what? Just let it happen..ya gotta fuckin let it happen...get it over with..and move on. I think alot of us here feel the same..i mean Im usually an 8:30 go to bed guy(old age I guessSmiley)..but lately...ive been stayin up til 11   12   even 1.....no matter when i go down to sleep....I get a knock at the 'ole right eyeball sayin...IM HERE!!! I had the exact same problem, I could not get to sleep, heart pounding and everything, found out it was depression and took anti depressants, they helped but they started a new cycle which ended 2 weeks after stopping them. If you in a cycle becareful of self treating with ST. johns wort, I tried it during a cycle and started getting hit very hard and often. Follow the Meletonin thread in the meds section.

Tia, I have been using Ambien as a sleep aid for about a year. It works very fast, no intoxicated feeling and no hangover the next day. I have been able to function normally when needed in the middle of the night. This drug is really amazing. The only caveat is the price $3-4.00 a pill without insurance.

How some of you women sufferers here who also have children to raise manage to get by, I will never know. It's something that I can't imagine. My children were nearly grown when mine started, so I didn't have to deal with caring for little ones during a cycle. I certainly know it's hard enough to care for them even if you're the picture of health.
 
I have to think, though, that the spouse of a sufferer should step in and take the load off, even if they don't understand it. That is the essence of support. I'm terribly sorry if that is not possible.
 
I also stay up late when I'm in cycle. I know I shouldn't but I can't help myself. After about 3 weeks of that, I have to take vacation and just rest for several days. I do this in every cycle, push myself to the limit of staying awake, and then crashing for several days. I wish I wouldn't do that, but like the dance, it seems to be something I have no control over.  
 
Ultimately, no matter who you are, you've got to have some sleep. Unfortunately, even knowing this still doesn't help sometime.
 
Sure hope you can crash for a couple of days.

I can't add much to what others have said above.  
 
I know what you feel like but I don't have young ones to care for like you do now.  It's tough even with help.
 
The body heals best when sleeping and you need the rest.  You don't want to be fighting other things. That would make it worse.  Try to relax and get some rest when you can.  
 
I took Ambian and Bellaspas both at night.  Talk to your Doc.  
 
I pray that your pain ends soon, Tia.

You've been through a lot lately and need more support.  Hugs dear.
 
Cycle before this one, I was working four ten hour days getting hit with very little sleep.  Became the worst hell.  I know what you feel like somewhat.  Yes, getting to the edge.
 
See what your doctor can do.  Explain your feelings.

  I'm sorry your having such a hard time Cry ,dealing with the beast is hard enough but your accident sure wasn't good for the nerves either.I can't really add to the advice you've been given .as a supporter I can only imagine the anxiety you face every night.Is there any way to catch a few winks during the day? (if you don't also get hit then)It's times like this I wish clusterville was a small little town .than we could  really be there to lend a hand to a fellow cluster family in need.just know we're all sending vibes and and hugs  hug hoping  you get some well deserved sleep.

I think Mel said it best and there isn't anything I can add. But I do know the sleep anxiety trip, last cycle I got hit after about an hour every time I fell asleep. Getting slammed 7+ times a night sucked but being retired with no real resposabiliities made it easier. Hang in there Tia, don't let the beast win even a little.

I know this sounds crazy, but it actually feels better to know it is not just me.  As far as sleeping during the day, no  
i work 40+ hours a week and am the primary care giver for my kids.  
 
i know that many dont understand, but no my husband does not help much.  his response to me when I am getting hit is simply "fix it". He sort of has buried his head in the ground and does not want to learn any more about it then I am going to a doctor to figure it out.  
 
So to hear that others understand this very unrational response helps. Thanks guys.

How much Melatonin you taking? 9 mg is recommended for CH'ers, and you can still wake easy enough to important sounds.
 (The Melatonin worked well for me for months, but eventually quit working. Also, at the beginning it took a few days to really start working.)
 If you don't have a anxiety disorder, stay clear of the Xanax. I've been on this crap for 15 years, it is very addictive. As Ramon said, it takes time to work and get used to, as it does cause drowsiness.
 I couldn't sleep with anything these nights right now, but may have some other suggestions if I can get them out in time ... heavy shadows starting to hit my neck now.
 Forget your brainless husband. Try sleeping on a recliner. If you saw my joke post with the bird, you'll see a round neck pillow I'm wearing. The chair, the neck pillow and staying in one position works much better than lying in bed. (Keeps you off your back).
 Have other info, will write E-mail when I can, I gotta get off here now and blast some hot water on my head now ...

Well, I know I'm just speaking for myself, but a can of ice cold coca-cola diet with lemon helps me deal with many stresses of my life. Especially CH med side effects!
 
But I do agree with others; don't let CH stop you live your life the way you want it. I know it's hard, but you need your sleep. If you're not doing it for yourself, do it for your children...

You know what Minnie - I think you hit the nail on the head.  I didnot even think about it.  When my sleep gets really messed up (like after my son was born) I dont usually remember my dreams.  But when I fell alseep last night, I did remember what I was dreaming about when I woke up, freaking out.  I was dreaming that I was driving on a dark road and I could not get the lights to work.  And every time I started to excellerate, a Semi- truck would cross in front of me.  That really had me thinking that the accident really messed with me worse then I thought, because I did not see it coming.  You know having so many people say that I should have been hurt and such, really hit my sub-consious.  After I woke up my hubby and talked to him about it.  I actually slept much better when I fell back asleep.

Been there - still doing that myself.  Wife works, I can't right now, so I take care of getting the kids and her up and off in the mornings.  Also babysit the granddaughter on the odd night or three a week.  
 
I can't imagine someone that truly loves you just telling you to "fix it" or "deal with it" and not lending a hand.    
 
I realize a lot of men (especially the older ones) were raised that the house and kids are "Woman's Work" and they shouldn't have to help out, but damn!  
 
I guess my situation growing up made me more useful around the house and more supportive.  As the eldest of 6 kids, with a stepdad that worked during the day and a mom (she ws a nurse) that worked at night, I was chief cook and bottle washer for years.  I cared for the kids, cooked, cleaned, washed clothes, sewed on buttons and patched holes - the whole nine yards.  I was thrilled when my oldest sister finally got old enough to help me.
 
Anyways, I digress...I can't offer more than has already been suggested.  Gonna try some of the suggestions myself.  Just know that we are here for you to vent to whenever you need us.
