Passion of the Christ

Hey guys Well, here in Denmark we're a little slow. So this weekend we had the premier for Passion of the Christ (guess it's been available to the rest of you for weeks, maybe months). Anyway, there's one scene that reminds me somewhat of a cluster attack. You know where the Christ gets the crown of thorns smashed into his scull? Looks pretty nasty doesn't it? Well, I'm almost certain that when I get my next attack I will play this scene for my inner eye. Did anyone like the movie? And find the violence justified? For my account I think it was good - at least it made me think about religion. Which is not something I often do. Chris out

I haven't seen it... But it must be pretty moving. There are a few stories here in the states, one of which is here in Phoenix, of people turning themselves in for unsolved crimes that they are responsible for, after seeing it... I think I'm gonna wait about 7 yrs, for any statute's of limitation to expire before I see it. Just in case...

I have seen bits of the film when I saw a documentary about Mel Gibson, but to be honest, there's a film I won't be seeing. I have read my Bible and believe in God, but there's a limit how much suffering I want to see on screen. When I go to the movies, I want to laugh. PFdays, sandie99

Saw the movie with my wife and sons. Very powerful, my wife and sons teared throughout the movie, and yes, there were times I leaked myself. I plan to see the movie again in next few weeks. If it ever comes out on DVD I will most certainly add it to the library.

Being a ministers wife we found the movie to be very close to scripture and very moving. I cried through the whole movie. To think that he went through all of that just so our sins could be forgiven. It was unthinkable to imagine that was his plan all along. I felt so grateful and blessed to have a God that loves me so much. I definetly plan on adding the DVD to my collection as well if and when it comes out.

Haven't seen this yet. Too cheap anyway. I wait for stuff like this to come on HBO. Hopefully it will be there. The Sopranos need all the help they can get this year. Chuck: Being freed from clusters would be right up there on my list too. You don't suppose Matzoh is an antidote? Pesky Charlie

(Even though it has not worked in the past, who knows? This time might be different!) Oh the things I am forced to do to further the research! Chuck

I've seen the film, I found the historical and biblical accuracy to be quite outstanding. The graphic nature of the violence portrayed in the film only added to the emotion of the film. Frankly, if you have/prefer a watered down vision of the life of Christ then this film isn't for you. I personally viewed the film to be a very accurate portrayal of what would have happened during the time period. Some folks can't accept that, and the reason the Jewish community raised such a stink about it is because they do not recognise Christ as the Messiah and the film as a result of those beliefs made the Jewish look bad socially. Again, this was a brutal and oppressive time period for almost every nation and/or religon, so regardless of whether or not your faith looks bad in the films representation is irrelevant. It was historically accurate. Ramon

I find the entire thing to be abhorrent, offensive, and barbaric. I don't see one shred of love in the torture, murder, and mutilation of another living creature. Even Jesus cried out, "Why hast thou forsaken me!?" and asked that "this cup" be taken from him. That doesn't sound like a man willing to be a sacrificial lamb for the sins of the world. It sounds like a man who has been forced into an horrific fate that he didn't want any part of. Then again, I don't subscribe to Christianity, but I wonder if anyone ever stops to think that if Jesus returned to Earth, the last thing he'd want to see would be a cross??? The concept of a messiah sent by God to die for the world and rise again is not unique or original to Christianity, by the way. I have no axe to grind with Christianity at all, and I believe that people should be free to follow whatever religion they choose, but I really don't understand the controversy over Gibson's film. (On a slightly less reverent note, I was looking at a crucifix once, and thought, "You know, Jesus really had some GREAT abs!" (sorry... sorry...)

I saw the film on opening day. It was an incredible experience and I cried almost throughout the entire film. I didn't feel like I was watching a movie, I felt as if I was there. I find it ironic when people complain about the violence but most do not blink an eye when going to mainstream R rated movies with gratuitous violence throughout. I know that I am not deserving of the love that Christ has for us, but I'm grateful that he does.

Well, I haven't seen the movie yet because I am going to wait till it comes out in the video store. I am sort of afraid to watch it, because I cannot stand movies where someone is being hurt physically as well as mentally. I could only watch about 5 min. of Saving Private Ryan, and I had to leave the room (hubby was watching it at the time). I tend to feel the hurt they feel, and that goes right down to my very being. Perhaps that's why I usually rent comedies or action flicks? Anyhow, being Methodist myself, I have always found my religious history (as well as ALL religions) fascinating, so I am quite interested. mel

I feel the same way, Melissa. After growing up in a violently abusive household, fighting all the time when I was a kid, doing six years in the Army as a medic, and going to two wars, I'm fed up with violence. Just... utterly sick to death of it. *sigh* The Muslims, Christians, Jews, and so many other religions all agree that God is love. If people lived that spirit of their faiths, the world would be a less bloody and violent place.

My boys saw it not long after it came to town and they both said it was very good, bloody but good. My boys dont get rattled by too much with all the horror movies they have watched over the year but this movie really hit home for them. They went with the church they belong to and John (whom is the oldest) said "Mom grown men were crying and so was I" I for one will see it when it hits DVD till then Im going to wait only cuz its 7.50 to go!! I have no baby sitter either. Being a Catholic my self, my priest and I have long talks about what happened according to the Bible. I for one dont like the thought of someone being hurt in anyway, but the fact remains God is love and Jeep your right "If people lived that spirit of their faiths, the world would be a less bloody and violent place." Thats just for what its worth. Leesa

So the Stooges are another trinity then?.... Jesus wouldn't like this movie? Probably not but hey... Doesn't look like something high on my list anyway, but religion is responsible for more bloodbaths and misery than anything so it probably has to be messy. It's a shame if that was just to sell the film. (Don't confuse religion with faith. Two different animals) The older I get the less I enjoy blood on film. It's okay up to a point but too many are sold by body count. 1-1/2 hours of nothing but gore can't be good for anybody. I'm at Turner Classics more and more. Lotta yakking. I like that. Give me Inspector Clouseau any day. Charlie
