Do you really care....??

Just trying to figure out why there is such negative interest in supporting OUCH.
Are you aware that it takes $$ to get the word out about CH?

I have spent hours looking for items that I thought you guys would be interested in for OUCH auctions.  I spent MY money on 16 items for auction.  I am not asking to be paid for these items.  I paid for them with the intention of DONATING them for OUCH.

I attempted to find items that could be auctioned at a reasonable price, so as not to burden anyone.  Your lack of interest has definitely changed my mind.  Evidently, supporting OUCH is not important to you.

What a shame!!  The money I spent on these items would have paid airfare for one person to attend the convention in July.  I cannot return the items, but I do have friends here on the board, and I will send the remaining items to them.

Thanks Michelle, for the time you have spent trying to get the auctions going.  IMHO, there is not enough interest to continue with the other items I have for the auctions. It takes too much of your time, and it somehow just doesn’t seem fair for the burden to fall on 3 or 4 of us.

Thanks to the 4 of you who bid on the current auctions.  I will donate the cost of the shipping to those who win.

Maybe DJ needs to delete the Auction and Raffle section of the board.  He could rename it…..call it a Bullshit section, or whatever else would work.

Thanks to the few of you who really care!

PF vibes,

Jean

I believe that Jean has officially slapped my ass.  I need to change my ways.  I don't necessarily want to purchase anything, but will donate what I can to the cause.

Thanks for the slap Jean

Perhaps one reason for the apparent disinterest is that ALL of the objects currently for auction are for smokers.  There are a lot of smokers here but probably less than half and a lot of people have quit recently.  A lot of non-smokers wouldn't even buy something smoking-related to give to a friend because it would be seen as encouraging the habit.   So you are probably only getting 1/3 of the participation that you would with things of more universal appeal.

Ditto.  Sorry Jean, I have looked at the items, I just quit smoking in Jan, and God, was it ever tempting to light up when I saw that damn zippo.  Hang in there, we love ya, hon.

I am sorry that I do not have money to contribute.  I do not feel that I need to justify the fact that my budget is extremely slim, as I am sure anyone with small children (in or out of day care) can attest to.

I have donated item of myself, either drawings I have done, or in volunteering to create a birth chart or two (whatever Jayne feels the desire for such an item can be) as a door prize for the convention.

If it can down to dues for ouch, I would find a way to get the dues in, as I do support in every way that I can, but to assume that because I do nto bid on items, even though I have seen items in the past that I would have loves to get, mean that I do not care.

Sorry I dont have the ability to give more to the support of OUCH and CH.com

I'm not going to try to defend myself... I've donated hundreds to OUCH.  But, as a non-smoker, there hasn't been anything worth bidding on for a while.  Heck, I'm not a doll collector either, but I bought one of those (and gave it to Edna).

Jean, I think people want to bid on stuff, but not smoking gear.

Jean,

Please understand there is no lack of interest in supporting OUCH.  Since going chronic a little over two years ago I have worked just under half time, and since being rear ended in Jan I have not worked at all.  Not looking for sympathy or pity in any way.  God has been supplying my needs, but there is nothing available right now for any thing else.  Please understand I do appreciate what you and several other of you have done and continue to do for OUCH, and one day I hope to be able to carry my end of the load again.

Please don't take our lack of participation as disinterest, as I know of several others in much the same boat as I.  Unfortunately some of you are having to carry a disproportionate portion of the load.

Jerry,

I sincerely understand your situation.  I also know that there are many others here with financial problems.

Tia.....I understand your situation too.

I did not intend for everyone to take this as a personal attack.  There are currently 6,294 members on this board.   One would think that out of that many CH sufferers, a few more would be willing to help the cause.  I want a cure for CH, and it's not gonna just fall in our lap.  We have to work to get it.

Jerry, if I offended you, I apologize.  Meeting you and your wife in Davenport was great.  I hope things get better for you real soon.

t.h.b...........evidently you have never been to a meet & greet.  CH sufferers smoke like a chimney.  Out of all sufferers I have met, there were only about 6 or 7 of them who do NOT smoke. I thought the smoking paraphanalia would make some money for OUCH.

Michelle, my dear..........do not fear.....I have plenty more snuffers.  I know that you bid on a set, but I will send you some extras.

.............jonny, thanks for your bid on the lighter.....it makes me feel better to know that it wasn't a lost cause.

The rest of you folks need to let the Fund Raising Committee know what it is that you would be interested in bidding on.  To my knowledge, there are no mind readers here.  Then we have to find someone willing to donate the type of items you desire.  Without any suggestions, and without someone to donate the items, we're pretty much dead in the water, as far as making any money from auctions.

And  I'm the biggest chimney of them all.  But Jean, I'm not the only one pointing this out on this thread or in the auction threads themselves.  There's also a thread in the convention topic where people talked about non-smoking rooms.

It probably wouldn't hurt to put something up for bid that would appeal to to somebody besides a smoker before writing off the whole auction business as a fundraiser and dismissing the entire race of ClusterHeads as uninterested and uncaring.

I think Jean is looking at other things to.
If you look at the post that have been posted concerning OUCH there has been very little response.
Don't take my word for it take a look yourself.

I have clusters and I need support. Support is a great thing. I also need Educated Doctors, The right drugs. I need to be able to go to the ER and know I am going to get the right help. From reading post I would think thats what you all want and need. To get that we need to fight. We can not fight alone we have to fight together.
O.U.C.H. was formed to hopefully make these things happen. The BOD and officers and committiess can not make all this happen without you all backing OUCH.

Drug companys can not do studys if they don't have anyone to study.  We can not pay for trips for people to go talk to these Doctors, drug compines, insurance companys etc..... We will not be able to pay for speakers at the conventions. We can't pay for insurance and things that we need to get. We can not pay for Lawyers and do the things that need to be done to et grants. You have to use money to make money. Wouldn't it be nice to turn on the TV and see a comercial or a news report about some drug that helps clusters. I see comercials all the time about drugs that help migrainers but never clusters. Its not going to happen unless we all pull together.

This thread right here should have 6000 replys saying "I Care what Can I do"!

I am tired of being treated like I am crazy how about you?

Now as fundraising chair I am asking all of you. What kind of stuff do you all want to see up for auction?
Do any of you have any ideas that would help us raise funds? I am not raising this money for me. I am trying to raise this to help us ALL!!! Its for you what do you all want? How can I get your help. I really need you all. It don't cost a dine to throw out ideas.

Jean I thank you from the bttom of my heart for all you have done for OUCH. You and all the others who have donated and given ideas and their time. All that give in any way small or large Thank you so much. You don't have to have money to think up ideas.

One suggestion.....why not try to sell items on something like eBay...to the general public? I see, hear and talk to so many clusterbuds that are financially taxed....out of work, can't work, paying for med's because our precious partners [insurance & doctors] don’t cooperate.

The American Red Cross is a major fund raising organization. They do not ask their own employees or volunteers for cash, they go to the general public for their funding needs. Other non-prof orgs produce written and electronic material for sale to the members and public. This is what generates revenue for the organization.

OUCH appears to be expecting the members to foot the bill for the entire operation and augment it with whatever grants may be obtainable. But as we all know, grants are usually directed to costs for specific projects….so where is the overhead expenditure revenue to come from?

This post will carry over to the OUCH BoD topic on National Dues and Chapter Dues. There are plenty of issues stated in those posts that need addressing, sorting and prioritizing. They also have a direct correlation to how we go about funding this organization.

More to come on the OUCH board as soon as thoughts are put in order…..you may not like it, but someone has to speak up.

Peace and prosperity to all,
-dan

I am also a non-smoker for two years now for what that is worth.

I am very offended by the constant feeling I get that I should be donating money that I need for my kids.  I sent an email volunteering my time and energy in any way needed.  I didn't even get a response back.  My time and desire to help were apparently not worth anything.

We are a single income family and 20% of our gross salary goes for child support for my husbands daughter from a previous marriage.  We are military for twenty years now and we struggle on a monthly basis and do not have money to donate.  We were going to take our tax return this year to go to Nashville rather than buying other things for our home, but I doubt that we will even do that now.  Sorry if this offends anyone, but I really feel this is wrong.

Sorry guys......I have knick-nack-patty-wacked myself out of house and home and have actually been hauling stuff to Goodwill so we can walk thru the house not crawl over things and can find stuff now too. Never ment to shun the cause by not bidding......OUCH 'is' a very GOOD cause !!! I've just not been buy up stuff much to add to my stuff collection. Didn't mean to look like I didn't care. Plus I am puttin so much into this kennel I have goin.......and tryin to save for a couple vacations too. What about the ebay idea.......you can 'plug' OUCH at the same time and get zillions of lookers.....maybe add the same info under each item after the explaination of it....describeing the OUCH cause. OK.....I'll quit while I am behind Pam

Hey KarynG......suma these guys in charge get 'so' many emails one can get accidentally missed or skipped or unanswer'd......don't take it personal.......it happens. HOPE to see you at the convention.......you'll be glad ya went !!!!!!

I agree wholeheartedly with this statement.  Why not start a thread on the OUCH board for other venues of making the money OUCH needs, other than just the membership?  I bet you'll get a good brainstorm going.  I know I'll participate!!
