ever wonder of brain tumor?

Whats up ppl, lately I read about someone who suffered with CH for years and finally found out it was a tumor or brain cancer, which got my fears rolling. I have been getting CH for about 6 years now. Almost textbook cluster h/a's. My cycles come and go on a irregular schedule though,no spring or fall tendencies. I usually have a cycle for about 1-4 months followed by a couple months of zero pain. This last cycle seems to have lasted about 4 months now,it gradually peaks and then diminishes but then starts right back again. I go weeks of kip1 or 2's up to a few days of 8-10's and then gradually back down to shadows, but then they start rising back up again slowly. Sometimes I go days with no pain, then a 8 or 9 jumps in for a day and then goes back to shadows or no pain for a week or so. Triggers like alcohol do play a role in my h/a's but sometimes get hit even when havent drank in week or two. I guess I just want some reassurance that I dont have brain cancer but just good ole' cluster headaches. I have a neuro who diagnosed my CH,but I have never had a CT scan or MRI,doc says its been going on so long it would not be brain cancer, just cluster headache. BTW,please dont recommend CTscan or MRI,just tell me Im not alone in this sporadic cycle of off and on all year round. Thanx

I should have mentioned that I only get 1 h/a per day(not as predictable as few years ago),rt.sided pain extending from temple to back of neck(constantly rolling my head around to ease pain),they last 30 mins.-2 hours, and oxygen aborts most of them. Signed,Paranoia

| Could you please point out where it was you read this? I'm curious to read it myself. Quote:I just want some reassurance that I dont have brain cancer but just good ole' cluster headaches |
| Ask your neuro to have an MRI or MRA done. Quote:BTW,please dont recommend CTscan or MRI |
| How can you be reassured if you do not get one done?? Quote:Sometimes I go days with no pain, then a 8 or 9 jumps in for a day and then goes back to shadows or no pain for a week or so. |
| Are you episodic or chronic? Are you on any preventative meds? I only ask these questions because you state you go PF for days at a time. Thanks, mel P.S. cancer and brain tumors run in my family.

I'm not sure why you don't want us to recommend CT or MRI. That would be the obvious choice. I can't imagine a Neuro diagnosing cluster h/a's without having eliminated other ailments first with an MRI and Cat Scan. I mean, everytime I have a seen a new Dr. over the years the first question out of their mouth is what tests I've had. Personally, I think your Dr is acting irresponsibly by NOT doing the necessary tests.

This may sound kinda...I dunno...crazy...but well, there have been times when I actually wished it was a tumor. At least...an operable tumor that could be removed. Then I could go under the knife, have it removed, and never get one of these things again. But that sort of thinking only occurs at...certain times. Bleah.

| I have felt exactly the same way. Also, I think you'd be surprised to know there are many clusterheads that wish this was the case.

I typed brain tumor and cluster into google and found the link below, it says most tumor-related headaches are migraine-like and a very small percentage are cluster-like. Looks like it is from a college neurology program, take it for what it's worth... http://www.upstate.edu/neurology/haas/hptumor.htm

Sorry Reese, but I CAN'T tell you that you don't have a fucking tumor. We are not doctors here. Don't go asking us for help thinking you're only gonna hear what you want to hear. Cripes

OK you little fuckin baby worrying ass homo I've had several CAT scan's and MRI's over the years and like the others have told you, your Dr isn't going to be able to tell you anything definite w/out knowing what's going on in there. Yeah you're probably OK and it's probably CH's but why wouldn't you want to know for sure? I agree with 9erFan in thinking that your Dr is acting irresponsibly by not doing these test. Jim

thank you john123, the link you provided was just what I wanted: "In adult patients with recurrent headaches that have been defined as migraine...with no recent change in pattern, no history of seizures, and no other focal neurologic signs or symptoms, the routine use of neuroimaging is not warranted" (The Quality Standards Committee of the American Academy of Neurology, 1994). " I actually feel better already, thank you

Anyone who gets CH's should always be checked out by a Neuro to eliminate possiblilites of any tumors & such. CATScan/MRI etc. I know you didn't want to hear that, but it's a fact. Your doc is probably right, but I can't believe he wouldn't want to check it out. My doc makes it manditory every 5 yrs. Sometimes brain tumors won't show up for long periods of time. The ones that did have brain tumors instead of CH's are probably dead now.

Reese, Not only are you being a "worrying baby" but you're just being an ass in general. If you want people to only post what you WANT to hear, you should try another site. We are clusterheads! Clusterheads don't sugar coat anything! Why would you not want to get these tests to rule out everything?? Personally, like someone else on this thread, I would RATHER have a brain tumor than clusters. The last time I had an MRI, I prayed that they would find a brain tumor. When they told me the test was normal I burst our crying. At least with a tumor they could operate and remove the damn thing. Sorry you don't like our answers, but get over it.
