This one has been bugging me for a while. Why is it that in the USA you quite often have actors as politicians or even Presidents, when other countries don't seem to (there was that Italian stripper woman though, La Cicciolina or somesuch I seem to remember). Is it because you have more actors per head of population than any other country? or another reason Wendy

It's because we are too stupid as a society to acutally listen to someone who really understands the issues, we think just because someone is a successful actor he/she must be an expert on everything under the sun, we are in a fast rate of decline on this side of the pond, Wendy. Thanks for asking.

That's harsh Thomas! I kind of was working on the theory that politics here gets more like showbiz every day, and people need 'sound bites' not information, and actors are good at delivering stuff like that. I thought therefore it was just another case of where America goes we follow later (apart from WWII of course ) W

A couple of simple reasons. A- It cost a lot of money to pay for airtime to campaign. So that people even hear your name let alone understand what your stands are on particuplar issues. Actor (especially big name actors get paid big buck and have the money availiable to them rather then trying to get contributions. B- To be elected to office is sadly more of a popularity vote rather then who will do the best job. So many people to never listen to any of the campaining, debates, whatever: go to the polls and see a name they recognize and vote for that person just because it is a name they know. C - Many actors are very verbal in thier critisism of the system. There are big rallys where all types of actors get together about some such issue or another and because many people follow the activities of stars they like more then the polititions, they start to thing that this person must know about all of the other issues as well. Which in some cases is true but not often. /hugs hun. Thanks for the emails, you made me feel better. Tia

| You are very right. Ronald Regan for example was very well now for this speaking ability. He was an amazing public speaker and even people who di dnot agree with this politics, where in tears and reasy to jump on the band wagon after a very moving speech. So in a way you are very right that people do not understand the issues, but they remember little catch phrases. That is a lot of times what gets someone elected. Tia

Dear Stupid Brit Wendy(don't flame gang, I'm joking), It is because we are a nation of devastatingly handsome people who have above average intellects, and we have such intelligent actors and actresses that they are all highly acute when it comes to politics and such...and they are socially aware..thus they feel the need to step up and help our country be all it can be....... yeahhhhh.....dat's da ticket..... Love, Miss Doublegusset!!

And when it boils down too it, actors get paid to pretend like they are someone that they are not, just like our politicians. lol. I hate polticians, all of them. I just vote for the one that will charge me the least amount of money to screw me.

| All of their pricks are too small anyway, that's why they are politicians, besides if it hurt enough to need lube, we would ALL be getting rid of their asses.

I don't know, Wendy, I don't live in their respective cities, all I can go off of is what their cronies in the media have to say. Besides It's the hollywood activists that really get my goat, half of them never graduated high school much less have a degree in ploi sci, or civics, and they want to tell me what I can and can't do. "Toss off" I say to them. lol.

We in Minnesota had to endure 4 years of Jesse "the moron" Ventura (don't care if anyone likes him. I'm a teacher. He tried to destroy education here.) He was elected due to name recognition and "coolness" factor", as well as dissatisfaction with born and bred politicians. One thing I'll give the man - more college-aged students voted in that election than in any others. Yea, they probably did a great deal to vote him in, but it got them involved, and let them experience first-hand the power of the vote... Chris- not much happier with our current born and bred Republican gov...who is also killing education...Troubles? We've got Pawlenty.

| Sonny Bono ran for office in California and was elected. Pretty smart of him. He also ran into a tree. Not so smart of him.

| Eligible? Do you mean because he's a foreigner? People from other countries can be elected to office here. Except for President. The govenor of California is a movie star foreigner.
