Need some thoughts here and med advise

I go in tomorrow at 1:45pm for my follow -up on my occipital nerve radiofrecuency thing. And I want to talk to them about putting me on different meds cause the Gabridil and the Inderal are not doing shit. So what do you all think I should ask for. I know that a lot of people talk about the lithium and varap cocktail but I would like to try and not go with Lithium yet. If I just go with verapramil what dose and I looking at to start and what are the ramping doses. I know that all of the preventatives take time to work, but I am sick of letting the doc make the calls. I have Imitrex NS for aborting the real bad ones. But I only can get 6 every 25 days per insurance so the less intense HA are a great help. Update on how I am doing. All in all I guess the procedure was a sucess. I mean I still feel the HA but one that would have been a K9+ hit for about a K7-8 Sunday night so I have to figure that it helped some. I lets me continue yto function, especially when I get hit at work and ear;y evening with the kids. That was the concern that I had as my work was bitching about my ability to continue, blah blah blah... The biggest issue is that I dont get the lower scale ones anymore they are all hitting between K5-7 and a few higher. Any thoughts or ideas would be a great help. PF Wishes to you all... Tia

Tianna, Whatever you decide, I hope it helps. Your doc should know the right ramping rate. Mine did a prednisone taper with a ramping up of verapamil at 120mg a week for three weeks to 360mg. I am ending a cycle though but get hit infrequently in the morning before work. Much better though. Hope the right prevent comes your way. See some PF soon...please. Keep us posted. Kevin M

Tiannia I know GP's all do it differently but here is a copy of what the main article on our site says: VERAPIMIL Verapamil is the most preferred drug amongst sufferers of both ECH and CCH. Medical research has shown that higher doses are needed than for other uses of the drug. Dosages of the drug vary from between 240mg to 960mg per day, normally taken in tablet form three times a day. The strength of the tablet is increased every two weeks until it is effective in stopping cluster attacks or until the maximum dose of 960mg per day is reached. Hope this helps W

There two types of Verapamil. The one I take is the SR and then there is one that isn't SR. I take 960 mg SR, but I think that if you aren't taking the SR the mg dosage is less for some reason. Can someone please say and explain this this better than I can. Thanks. Stuey

(SR) Sustained release....(ER) Extended release......I think I was one 480 mgs aday of ER for over a decade (Along with Lithium) with great results, I then got my hands on some SR and went nine weeks with only one HA (Not to shabby for chronic).....I now take SR only (Along with Lithium) ............................jonny
