Does Alzheimer's run in your family? (poll)

I am just curious about this.  I had a great aunt who had Alzheimer's (not to mention other mental illnesses that run in my family), and am wondering if anyone else has this in common?

If you are saying to yourself, oh no, not again, another fricken poll!  Then feel free not to participate. Grin

Thanks

This is Dave (of Ree and Dave fame) she is on her religious break from posting here but we were checking the board and saw this post.

The answer is YES my mom has been recently diagnosed with Alzheimers and her sister also has it.  Ree ran a poll on this before.  I don't know how it turned out.    Dave

Thanks Dave, I wasn't sure.  I'll re-check the archives again, I think I misspelled Alzheimer's the first time I tried it.  I hope you're doing alright, and I'm so sorry about your Mom and Aunt.

take care,

My grandmother had Alzheimer like symptoms but we were told by the doctors that it was due to the extensive heart medication that she had to take after she "blew a valve"...

Otherwise, no.

Well that is one way to see the bright side of it.

My great Uncle had it, on the maternal side.  But that was supposed to be from the medication that they had him on. At one point there was talk in the family about sueing the docs cause they knew that it would cause it, but I dont think that it ever happened.

My paternal Grandfather was never diagnosed with it, but he went pretty crazy after my Grandmother died.  Came to stay with us with 40 pairs of underwear 15 shirts and no pants. So there is a good chance that he might of had it.   Grin

Alzheimer's run in your family?
Nope. Breast cancer is a biggie on the wife's side. Death by extreme old age seems to be the choice on the paternal side.

mom had early onset alzheimers and died at 62.

i think this is a good question and am thinking about putting together a questionaire, there has to be some connection between us all except that we have "dificult personal;ities",

have there been any all inclusive questionairres to be taken by ch-ers and non-chers to see whatever?

if not, i would like to start a post soliciting questions.

Honestly, I came across this question while looking up information on smoking benefits. (don't laugh!!)  I came across this web page--> http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a5_096.html

I know many ch'ers smoke, also have mental illness in the family, have addictive personalities, I could go on and on.  There are also ch'ers that have none of these in common, so that throws off many polls and studies.

bubu, I know some surveys have been done on what ch'ers have in common, I'm not sure what the extent of the results are.  The best thing to do, is to research the archives, and do searches on both the old and new message boards to see all the polls that have been taken.  Good luck, there is a TON of reading!!
