Are these Clusters or somethine else?

All day today Ive had short intense headaches on my left side between my eye and ear. Sounds like clusters right? But they only last about 2 minutes of blood pounding pain and thats it.. until about 10 mins later and it starts over again. I do have a history of bat migraines but they always last atleast 4 hours preceded by the sparkling eye blinding auras. Ibuprofin doesnt help, cant take asprin. what do you think? Any advise greatly aPpreciated. Why am I not asking a doc? spent all day hoping it would be over, thinking tomarrow ill call him.

Hey there! It doesn't sound like it because it doesnt last very long. Usually 30 mins to 3 hours for most of us. Have you tried taking the cluster quiz on the left buttons? This usually helps people to identify if they are one of us. Hope it's not and that is just a passing thing. But definitely call your doc and keep us posted. Belle

The symptoms you describe in addition to CPH also fit the other TAC (trigeminal autonomic cephalgia, of which CH is but one), called SUNCT syndrome (this is short for its huge real name of "short lasting unilateral neuralgiform pain with conjunctival injection and tearing" Worth checking that out too. It might be worth suggesting a short course of indomethacin to your GP if you are allowed to take it as it is believed to be 100% effective for CPH, but doesn't usually work for CH which can make it a good diagnostic treatment. The short duration doesn't fit in with clusters. Do your headache attacks ever wake you up? For me, that's a pretty good indicator of clusters. Good luck and let us know how you're doing. Charlie

Charlie My migraines sometimes wake me up and this can be quite common with migraine sufferers, so it doesn't cover it (although as you say, a good indicator) The difference is, when a CH wakes me up, I get fired out of bed like a rocket in agony and clamp on the 02. When it's migraine, I walk to the bathroom and take a Zomig then go and lie down again. oooppps I said that "M" word again Wendy
