My mother had an appointment today with the same neuro as I go to. He noticed that we have the same name and asked if we were related and of course she said yes...he then said he treats 5 episodic cluster patients and oddly enough all of them had been in within the last week...I remember him telling me this before many years ago. Anybody else ever heard of this? Just wondering.

My neuro has said that from time to time.  Changes in season, temperature and pressure he feels brings us in.

The one I went to years ago said much the same. Not much they could do back in the middle ages...when I got mine.. painting myself blue and worshipping trees was all there was.

Perhaps the seasonal occurance of ch in episodic sufferers is why mine went diagnosed as sinus related with no relief for so long.

Its more likely that the Doc who did the diagnosing was a distant relative of Ramon's Doc. Did he mention getting all your teeth pulled?

According to the Cluster Survey:

Episodic cycles normally start
Spring (Mar-May) 1637    13%
Summer (Jun-Aug) 1100    9%
Fall (Sep-Nov) 1888         15%
Winter (Dec-Feb) 942        7%
Randomly 4206                34%

(don't know why those percentages add up to 78%)

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I don't see seasonality.  Has everyone taken the survey?

Add up spring and fall (half the months of the year) and ya get 28%... not even close to half the clusterheads.  That's not even a plurality.  To demonstrate seasonalilty, that number's gonna have to be WAY over 50%.

I'm convinced CH is cyclical, but I'm not convinced it's seasonal.

Am I missing something?

Absolutely. We need to get with the program. The medical information is IN, and apparently we aren't paying proper attention to when we allow our cycles to operate:

Excerpted from the DevCon03 report.....
It has been observed, on an OVERALL plotting of CH sufferers that there is a circannual periodicity in CH.  They have shown that overall, sufferers (episodics in cycle, or chronics) will suffer a CH attack 2 weeks after the longest day of the year, and 2 weeks after the shortest day of the year.  This was observed by Dr. Kudrow after plotting ALL his patients’ attacks.  Individuals will vary obviously, but overall, this has been shown to be true.

Must be something in the bandwidth,
RJ

Hmmm, for the five years I have kept the beast in his bottle. This year, mid January he broke out and none of my preventatives are working. So for this year anyway the above statement is true.

I blame the good ol' government finger. I usually get two cycles a year and they generally hit right after the daylight savings time change. Their little experiment needs to stop in my opinion or maybe I need to move to Southbend, IN. Anyone there with CH?

Do we have access to this information (not the summary)?

You know I am skeptical of the stuff Dr Bigal was saying about latitude (especially because of potential  'sociological bias').  It would be kinda nice if he was correct because then maybe someone can develop a light therapy regiment that may help.  Time is god.

Yeah, I know I'm an iconclastic bastard.  Glad I'm not living 10 years ago otherwise I'd have to have hazel eyes (sorry, a bad joke).

Steve... I'd love to hear more about your sociological bias viewpoint.  I tend to think there may be some unknown factors that could potentially feed into either side, pro or con.

From here, the latitude effect seems to have withered on the vine but then I'm not the best at being up to speed. I was at the meeting too and as much sense as it made then, I haven't heard much.

For me, the beast attacks precisely at the point in the earths orbit, equidistant between perihelion and aphelion.

It could also be the Easter Bunny and/or the Great Pumpkin...I don't know.  I'm still working on it.
