Show me a politician with absolutely NO skeletons in their closet and I'll show you a saint. Absolutely rediculous there has never been nor ever will be a natural rainforest in Iowa. The money would be better spent on CRP reserve and prarie/ wildlife conservation and re-forrestation efforts. Let the educational organizations that want it built find a better location and alternative financing for that.................rainforest in Iowa gimme a break! Ramon

The only temperate rainforests in the continental US are in the GPNW. Last I checked that is a considerable distance from Iowa, Nebraska or Wyoming. Then again. I have been wrong before. Not by over a thousand miles. But there is always a first time. My navigation skills may not be what they were. TTFN

OK, OK.......a great idea. Indoor rainforest, expensive as hell, vast in size, a monument to man's possibilities....... Quote: planned to be located in an area along the Iowa River |

From what I saw of Iowa there were only about 7 trees and 4 of those were in the atrium...the rest looked like snow covered cornfields. Not much of a start for a rainforest. Jim

Ironically Jones is right...... A good portion of the Iowa "river" (more like a glorified creek) is flood plain. The river floods almost annually, innundating a good deal of rather pleasant parks and low lying neighborhoods. The general area is rolling hills but right smack in the heart of Iowa City, home of the University of Iowa, is what used to be a large percentage of rather high quality MARSH land. Unfortunately, the U of I is more a Medical and Educational oriented school than Iowa State U where a greater portion of engineering students attend. I imagine that the few engineering students could find a large volume of fodder for graduate work if they had a mind to. Ramon
