Not CH (pics from France, big post)

Well, I was sent on an emergency trip to babysit one of my engineers. The downside was I had to drop everything and go to the middle of nowhere in France and sit in a lab for 5 days. Well, as luck would have it, the equipment was delayed. Very delayed. In fact it arrived soon after I left. So I spent the week taking pictures in the South of France, which ain't a bad gig if you can get it. So, I thought I would share a couple of my favorites if y'all don't mind. This is a picture of the citadel in Carcasonne. Believe it or not, my hotel was actually in this fortified city that dates back to Roman times. I took these pictures at about midnight in the bitter, bitter cold. The citadel is about 3km around, and I walked it twice, taking shots with numb fingers and no feeling in any part of my face. I would not be doing well in New England this week... I hate cold. On the first day we realized we'd have nothing to do in the lab, so we hopped in the Golf deisel and headed for Pont Du Gard, which is arguably the Romans greatest single achievement in engineering. It is a 2000 year old bridge whose dimensions are impossible to comprehend without actually being there. I have seen many pictures of this bridge before, but seeing it in person was simply stunning. I was incredibly lucky to get a shot of the reflection in the water because usually there is a very stiff wind blowing through that valley. In fact, the water was calm for only a few moments after I finished shooting, and there was never an opportunity to take that shot again. On the way back, we stopped in Nimes and climbed around in an old Roman arena that is still used for events, but mostly it's a tourist attraction. It still was worthy of a shot or two. So, I figure this post is huge already, so I won't make it any bigger. I hope you enjoy! -Shawn

Can't argue about that. I have been there at least 50 times, and this trip in particular I encountered the worst of the worst French snobbery ever. They are really strutting their hatred for all things American these days. We even got sneers from the damn toll booth attendants. As if. All that aside though, I had no choice but to go, and I did manage to have a good time.

I"m on your page Fu, and glad you had a good time bro, the pics are impressive, however. I had the same problem in Canada with the little froggy's up there too. Thankfully there's St. Catherines Street I worked for a French firm over the summer.......big mistake for me, they just have issues with Americans and they arn't bashful about expressing it. I could feel the hatred the day the job began and no matter how much i tried I eventually had to tell Pier to shut the fuck up and go take a bath........... Mickey Mouse fuckin RULES dude Love ya Fu.....Sean

Ah, the famous Aquaducts..........yes, a certain marvel of roman engineering. The citadel as well. I hope you reminded the french that even though these structures were within their borders the romans are still to be credited with the construction. Great Pics Fu, outstanding job on them. Thanks for sharing. Ramon
