There was these two Scottish soldiers ordered by their Commander to get the measurement of the flag pole out in front of the post.
So they took a tape measure and out they went. As they pushed the measuring tape up the pole it would fall back on them. Afar several frustrating attempts and Irishman happens by.
He asks the two soldiers what they were doing. They told him their Commanders order to get the flag pole measurement. Ah, said the Irishman, and offers to help. The two Scots reservedly consent.
The Irishman walks up to the pole and pulls with all his might. Soon the pole dislodges and the Irishman lays it on the ground. Takes the measuring tape and gives on end to one of the Scotsman, then goes to the end of the flag pole. The Irishman yells out, " 53 feet 9 inches", and walks away.
The Scotsman holding the tape measure said to his fellow countryman, " isn't just like an Irishman to give us the length instead of the height".
