Numbness and tingling.....

This happened to me a year or more ago and it's happening again.  My old doc was worried there were TIA signs.....but CAT scan was fine back then.

I start getting slammed real hard, with migraines thrown in more than usual then my fingers on the HA side (right) go numb off and on for a few days then my whole hand then my whole arm, with weakness in my arm also.  Then I start to feel the tingling on that same side in my face till it spreads to most of that side of my face.  Also dizziness/lightheadedness off and on.  These symptoms are worse during a headache, but kind of linger off and on even when PF.  That's where I am at right now.

Last time this happened I also lost sight in my right eye a couple times off and on.  Also had a very hard time with slurring of my speech and dizziness.

Anyone else get this?

I just HOPE I don't get these full on symptoms at work, I think what if I have my client in the lift, pushing him to the wheelchair and this happens?!!

......edited to add I am on ZERO meds right now, well for a few months now.  Other than and occasional phenergran

I posted similar happenings a few months ago....

It occurred 2x at the end of a medrol.....taper.

1st  time doctor thought it was because of the verap and started having me taper down..thought it was BP.

2nd time meds all the same...only variable was the roids.

I am a person who seems to get the 1 in 5,000,000 kinda sife effects with many meds.

Anyway that is what it "seemed" to be.

Another alarm ( hope not to scare ya) ....some signs of MS.

Good luck and hugs to ya.

Hi Tara, Ask for some blood chemistry tests. I had numbness and tingling in my fingers earlier in the year and it was severe calcium deficiency. It could be any one of a number of things.. also something called raynauds syndrome so it is best to get it checked out asap. Let us know how you get on please and here's hoping its nothing!

hi there - I have been getting cluster headaches for 28 years, I also get the occasional migraine -

Your symptons sound just like the precursors I get with my occasional classic migraines - I loose my peripheral vision and get kind of lights or holes in my vision, cant focus directly, also numbness in hands, also speech affected - cant string words together...  then these symptoms go and the migraine headache begins (or not, sometimes I get the disturbances without the headache) - But of course these symptons are migraine, not cluster headaches - a totally different beast

You really do appear to suffer from migraine not CH (believe me, you're lucky!) - anyway many of the treatments and self care and triggers are quite different - for example, us clusterheads tend to be active during an attack, whereas absolutely the best thing for migraine is to go into a quiet dark room, cover the eyes and keep still.

Hope this might help and that you dont mind my comments - I offer them with genuine care and sympathy

take care & be strong

Thanks Lelimey, Eric, and CC.  I do need to get somethings tested but it's gotta wait till I'm insured again.

CC I have been diagnosed with Clusters for 5 yrs and have had migraines for even longer.  I hope this is just more HA crap, but these symptoms are generally different to me (other than when they happened 1+ yrs ago)

Just one quiet word of warning. Until they have defined what is wrong and why you are getting these symptoms, it would be a good idea to carry on staying away from vasocontrictors e.g. the Triptans.
There is a particular kind of migraine with some similar symptoms to yours called BAM (basilar arterial migraine) where taking triptans can cause stroke. As others have said, even classic migraine can create these symptoms, so BAM is an outside chance as it is much rarer, but better to be safe than sorry.

About a year and a half ago, when I was in the middle of my cycle, I had very similar symptoms. I was almost finished a wedding shoot when everything went wonky....

Long story short, after a trip to my neuro, he figures I had a "small" aneurysm. The resulting MRI showed no new ones residing in my brain. The symptoms were too weird to say it wasn't anything, but the aneurysm was small and had already "healed nicely".

This was just part of my wacky life, and I do not want to worry you, there are way to many things in life to worry about already.

There are so many things that could cause these symptoms, this was just my own experience.

Check with your doctor's and be persistant.

Hope you figure it out.

CC don't worry about it!  I appreciate any and all advice.

Wendy thanks for the info.  I read it and it says BAM HA pain is a pounding in the back of the head.  I don't have that, so if that's a criteria for BAM than I don't have BAM.  But will have to have a doc tell me either way.

high_commander That is so scary, and you are so lucky you lived through that!  My grandpa had CH (back then called Histamine Headache) and he found out later in life he had an anuersym.  I don't remember much what was told to him about it cause he died from other causes (cancer & emphysema)

Thanks so much for the info everyone.  I finally have the number of a local clinic that charges a very small copay to the uninsured.  I WILL be calling on monday.  I'll keep you posted on what's going on.

Taraann,  although what you mention are classic migraine symptoms, it's always best to exhaust all possibilities when you're dealing with anything neurological.

please check out this website:

This is what happened to our webmaster here, DJ, when he experienced similar symptoms to what you described (the numbness in the hand).  He ended up having a stroke and subsequent surgeries to correct this.

Please keep digging for answers, ok?

Wow!!!! Didn't know that nor have I ever heard of that disease......go figure considering I never heard of CH until this year and have had it for nearly a decade.

Get to your doctor!

WTF???  They do NOT heal...they clot. If it was an aneurysm, it needs to be clipped. Having had a LARGE one burst, and almost dying from the subsequent brain bleed, I do not recommend ignoring this "small" problem... girlfriend...get a second opinion!!!
