Hey all, I've suffered from clusters for 20+ years. New to this site. I've never met anyone that has suffered with a CH. Amazing how these war stories sound familiar to what I've struggled with all these years... Anyhow, I haven't seen any definition for shadows and frankly never heard the term used in this way. Sounds perfectly appropriate though. I get a brief warning before an attack. Usually blocked right nasal passage and a mild oncoming trainwreck sensation that involves the right side of my head - no pain. O2 at that time sometimes prevents onset. Then, if that doesn't work sometimes a full blown attack that makes me reach for the imitrex. Imiterx or not I end up with a "hangover" feeling. Can't open my eyes all the way, they're hazy and discolored and I just feel basically like shit - without real pain. Until the next attack when I'm in a cycle... Is that a shadow?

A simple description is a low grade CH that lingers and lingers but does not neccesarily lead up to the big bang. Another description of a shadow is that annoying little black thing on the sidewalk that follows you around on a sunny day.

Before coming here and hearing them called shadows I'd always thought of them as 'echoes'.

Well, last night I woke up without searing pain - just the hint of what might follow. Up for around an hour and then fell asleep. Woke up and just for good measure I sucked on the O2 tank for around 5 minutes. I'm OK right now? I guess the prednisone isn't letting the beast all the way out of the cage. Wonder if the fucker'll get out when the dosage decreases... Anyhow, the shadows are what I thought they were. For me they don't go away entirely until the cycle is done and the beast goes down the street to attack someone else.
