Being Prepared

Hi All,

I only saw the neuro at the beginning of the month so I doubt the letter has reached my GP yet.

Is it worth me making a Doc's appt. before I get my next cluster, which could be only a month away, and discuss the options or wait until I'm in need.

I don't want to get caught out and have to wrench myself out of the house mid-cluster. Equally, I don't want to appear as a pain in the arse patient trying to get prescribed everything for something I'm not actually suffering at the time.

What have you guys done after the diagnosis? Do Doctors still look at you as if you are mad? (or is that just me?)

Thanks

James

If you are episodic then you always have leftover stash from the last episode to carry you through the first weeks of the new episode.

I personally stash enough to get me through the ENTIRE next episode, rotating my stock with the incoming meds.  That said, my scripts are pretty generous and my med requirements are relatively low.  Others might have trouble building such a stockpile.

Hit the doctor up for some small scripts to cover the first few days of an episode.

Hey James.

The interest in a pre-emptive visit to you doctor seems to me to be a symptom that perhaps you don't have the right doctor, or that he could improve his CH treatments.

On my last cycle, I went to a neuro (and got REAL lucky) - she specialized in headaches and was very current on CH treatments. The last thing she said to me was "When your next cycle starts, all you have to do is call us and we can get you in immediately for a shot and we'll get your prescriptions called in."

I can't tell you how settling that is - to know I've finally found a doc who knows how to treat CH.

good luck to you

If you have been given a med then you should give it a fair try before asking for a change--and the length of the trial depends on the particular med you have.

In the absence of some specific issue you want to ask about, it's a little difficult to give a more focused answer to your question.

If you are episodic, you should stock up all year long, so that you have plenty of meds.  I try to have enough on hand to get me through at least two weeks, no matter if I am in cycle or not.

I always have a battle plan in place with my Doc so we can attack at the first indication of going into cycle.

At the end of a cycle he pre- dates a bunch of scripts so I can stock up for the next cycle.
