Hi everyone, Triggers ahave been mentioned a couple times in different threads, so I would like to ask what are yours? I know the most common is alcohol. Bright lights and loud static (like from a am radio) trigger some of mine. Anyone else?

| Never heard of either of these being a trigger for CH. An irritant maybe but a trigger?

Bright lights and noise sensitivity are unusual to hear about as cluster triggers though are commonly mentioned among migraine patients. My sister-in-law feels that bright sunlight is a common triger for her migraine attacks. I get a little sensitive to noise during an attack but always felt that was a psyco response and not a part of the headache. I definitely prefer to be alone during a CA. For me the too biggest culprits are alcohol and MSG. A close third would be cabin pressurization on air flights. These can trigger a CA at any time and not neccessarily during an episode. Sensitivity to these two isn't always the same however. I have had red wine without getting a CA. I also seem to be ok with cheeses and chocolate and can take either with impunity. I quit them during an episode however just to eliminate confusion when trying to track triggers.

I am very sensitive to bright lights and loud noises ... BUT only after an attack has started. I'd rather go insane pace in the dark & quiet, thank you Unsolved

Noise doesn't effect my CH's at all. Actually I like loud noise during an attack. Keeps my mind occupied I guess. When in cycle, light doesn't trigger a CH, but it seems 2x as bright. Gotta have shades at ALL times. Prefer complete darkness during an attack. I know it sounds like the "M" word, but believe you me, it's Clusters ! The only true triggers for me is alcohol & aromas.

During my times, I dont seem to need any triggers. They just happen. There are many things I avoid during my times, cause I have learned that they will indeed trigger CH reguardless of meds, or times of day. Alochol is a dead ringer for a trigger. The smell of frying bacon (eating bacon is gonna hurt me every time), laying on the left side of my head. Wearing a hat, sunglasses, reading glasses, and even rubbing my forhead will trigger an attack. Exhaust fumes, gas fumes, any kind of fossile fumes will trigger me. Real cheese, missing meals, food with perservatives, deep fried foods. Heat is a baddy too. Working outside and getting too hot will trigger my CH. Summertime is the worst for me, yet I get a few CH's during the winter also. No idea what triggers those.

Lets see....for me I still get them and there's no alcohol, no smoking, no meat,no caffeine, no being out on hot days and still no clue as to what's really a trigger..... although I'd like to count my mother-in-law just for fun. I think it's an ever changing recipe...that no one cares to fill me in on. Do you keep a diary of CH symptoms and what surrounds them? Sometimes that can help figure out triggers.

| I have to travel thru hills to go to works. The change of altitudes is not always a trigger (I would go nuts!) but it doesn't help. Hot days and cold days do it for me too. Rest and relaxation is a sure do. Weekends are always worst then work days...and it SUCKS!!! Aside from that, give me a cigaret and a beer anytime. Robert

Hi John... When I am in a cycle the surest way to bring on a headache is alcohol. When I am not in a cycle I can drink without causing a CH. The other day I got one after eating a couple of rice and bean enchiladas with guacamole, sour cream and hot sauce. I think it may have been the hot sauce. It seems to me that heat puts me into an active period. I skipped them last summer, but they're back this year.
