That's right, folks. Our superior salivatory nucleus is involved in the runny nose, tears, and drooping eyelid of an attack. This article didn't really say much that was new, but we now have a technical term to describe our drooling - autonomic dysfunction of the superior salivatory nucleus! Quote:Arq Neuropsiquiatr. 2004 Jun;62(2A):297-9. Epub 2004 Jun 23. [Cluster headache: study of autonomic alterations and other associated manifestations in 28 cases] [Article in Portuguese] Tanuri Fd Fda C, Sanvito WL. Faculdade de Ciencias Medicas, Santa Casa de Misericordia de Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo, SP, Brasil. The short lasting primary headaches are classified as those without autonomic activation and those with important activation, which includes the cluster headache. This study focuses on the pathophysiology of cluster headache mainly in its autonomic phenomenon (conjuntival injection, lacrimation, nasal congestion, rhinorrhoea, parcial ptosis and eyelid oedema) showing the involvement of superior salivatory nucleus with the pain stimulus propagation, which begins in the trigeminal nerve. The autonomic alterations were studied in 28 patients being lacrimation and conjuntival injection, the main features. |

Haven't heard much about drooling per se, but assumed most people with CH do it. Between the appreciable flow of fluids and the massive pain, I don't always pay attention to normal behaviors like wiping with a tissue.

I'm normally wiping my eye/nose with a towel. I might drool as well, but I had not noticed...

Man I'm gonna feel like a tool if I'm the only one. LOL! Seriously though, I find that I actually drool when I'm shadowing really hard. It may also occur during a full blown but I'm usually busy with the other stuff as well. This day is getting weirder and weirder.... Take care, Eric

| I hate it when that happens. I've been drooling for 26 years. Actually 46 but only 26 from the CH.

I have to spit constantly when getting hit. I also get a horrible copper-metallic taste too during bad ones.

And about all these wet passtimes, I cannot say it too often: 1. Women may not have these symptoms after menopause 2. Or after hysterectomy 3. People irrespective of gender may not have them if they're diabetics. All these conditions may and often will "dry up" the body. Less to no tears (dry crying), a thinner mucus layer (less headcolds)(some sexual problems). Less spittle, and less drooling. Just reminding you all...
